Europe: Apple could NOT care less about kids' in-app cash sprees

NT1

Use gift cards.

Can't comment on apple, but I use gift cards on android because I don't trust using my debit/credit card. Once it's run out it's run out! Can always get another for myself as the cost is the same, penny for penny.

My daughter is not old enough yet to want in app game purchases, but when she is, it's up to her whether she wants to blow her full monthly "gift card" allowance in one go. She'll learn. And if she doesn't, tough! Seems to me as much about bad parenting, as well as deception/misdirection from the software companies - platform or app.

Whoah! How many Google Play apps want to read your texts?

Better Google Play search - they know how!

I have no problem with all or nothing permissions. What I do have a problem with is the inability to exclude apps from search results with permissions I find intolerable. E.g. I should be able to (always) exclude apps from search results which require access to SMS messaging because I *never* want any app which requires this. Exclusion from results would be a good incentive for developers to not ask for them. If everyone could exclude these apps then they would have no presence and make no money through nefarious acts.

Of course, some apps legitimately need permissions - and when I want an app of that nature, then I'll temporarily enable that permission in the search results. Otherwise, complete exclusion for me.

And Google are more than capable of implementing this trivial filter in searches. And they would gain points for doing so.

More like...

More like recording a film publicly broadcast on national TV and selling it on a DVD. Breach of copyright? I think so -- just because it's out there for public consumption does not make it free for any and all commercial purposes.

You'll hate Google's experimental Chrome UI, but so will phishers

No point...

Putting the root domain in blue bold would show feeble users which part is the secure important bit while the rest of the line in black normal for less feeble users.

Bury the option to turn this new feature on where less feeble will ignore it and more feeble will never know it exists... what's the point? It may as well not be there...

Legal Entity

Surely Microsoft will just have to set up a legal entity which it "works with" offshore and therefore cannot access data without that entities permission in that offshore country. A legal device to mitigate these concerns for oversees customers?

Re: Single or multiple domains?

vagabondo, if you follow the link http://www.nominet.org.uk/uk-domain-names/manage-your-domain/change-registrar , you will see at the bottom it says "If you have multiple domain names (all available via online services) being moved to the same new registrar, the cost of a mass registrar change is £10 plus VAT." i.e, it is not a charge per domain name.

NT1

Single or multiple domains?

Implied is that 123-reg charge £9.99+VAT per domain whereas Nominet charge that for mass transfer of domains. Better to move them all to a different registrar for a one off fee using Nominet's service rather than 123-reg!
