Wow, I must be unusual, because I have two IT degrees and I'm training to be a teacher. Funny that, because everyone else on my PGCE teacher training also had IT degrees!
And why not teach students to make apps for iphone; because Apple charges a small fortune, and you can only do it on an expensive Mac computer.
It's not a good policy, and there isn't the funding either. These are more "real" reasons why.
Also, how can students learn to program without being administrators of the computer, and the last thing you want is a bunch of 15 year old boys with administrator level rights!!!
The number of times El Reg poo-poo'd terriorist threats and attacks, I remember how the register "exposed" that terrorists couldn't mix chemicals in an aircraft toilet to make a bomb.
I remember how many times our civil liberties were cast aside in the name of anti-terrorist legislation (according to the register); but most of all, I remember how the register has got it wrong. Wrong on the issues of civil liberties, wrong on the motives and techniques of terrorists and wrong on how we in the west should see potential threats.
O.k., as a tech site, I can see how people who read the reg are amongst the most savvy about tech, but your scare mongering about tech and civil liberties, and washing over the clear and present danger of terrorist extremism worries me.
Sure, not everything the goverment does is in our interests, BUT, nothing terrorists do is in anyone interests except their own. The sooner El Reg stops siding with the extremists, and becomes less anti-establisment the better.
We all accept the failings of government, but more, we need to acknowledge the disgusting practices of Islam on our society and stop beating ourselves about how we could appease the violent minority.
It's about the desirability.
Sell less, and they become more valuable (look at the Wii, the VW Beetle and the BMW Mini when they 1st came out).
Next time you make / renew a product, you're going to have muppets queueing round the corner salivating like flesh hungry zombies.
You "claim" a shortage, and two days later more limited numbers arrive in store.
You sell shed loads, people think they're desirable, because they are "rare", but the stock flies out the store quicker that if there were thousands available in store, and no-one felt that they would be left out.
It's the economics of idiots. Treat someone like an idiot, but put an apple logo on it, and they will behave like idiots and fall for this vulgar marketing ploy
Having downloaded it from an encrypted p2p site!
Lets face if, Hollywood complains that everyone is downloading their movies so they are losing money....
In reality... who'd pay to watch this rubbish???
Next in the sequel, John Connor is joined by Rambo (not the French philosopher)
I'll be back......
I had the misfortune / stupidity to buy "Greetings in Jesus Name!: The Scambaiter Letters"
Do yourself a favour and avoid like the plague.
The author is a right self satisfied twit, who has that sense of moral high ground exemplified in the dimwits who want to bring the country to a standstill with fuel protests.
Scam baiting should be left to law enforcement... or even to El Reg, not self appointed, smug git!
The stories aren't even amusing, I stopped reading after the author had made a young lad get a tattoo, was being SERIOUSLY threatened by the tattoist who wanted paying.
the lad wasn't even scamming, he'd asked for money, not tried to do a 419 scam!
In the end, I came away with the impression that the real loser was the author.
All you're really saying, is that the Wii is a next gen handset, not a next gen console.
At best, it's a novelty. Played for the first few days, then confined to the attic unless "friends" want to see it. Once you've broken a couple of vases on your killer bowling action, given the wife a black eye on the boxing and got various bruises and aches and pains from the "realistic" movement required, the novelty value soon ware's off!
As for the arguement that there are too many different models of the proper NextGen consoles... what about the confusing number of "Wii-motes"... wow.... look at this one, it's shaped like a tennis racket... but wait, you can also play badminton... and squash, useless on any game that doesn't require a racket though.
Both the xbox 360 and PS3 are capable of apeing the wii, there is a reason they don't. It's because they are designed for people who are into games!
I can see the new PS3 or xBox advert
Games.... not gimics!
Whats the point! I bet all the DRM'd music files you own won't stream, and the XBOX won't play .avi files, especially DIVX/XVID.
Plus,,,,, whats the betting you have to buy CALS like you do with Server 2003
(1) Pay for an XP license
(2) Pay for a Server license
(3) Pay EXTRA to connect the XP computer to the server.....
Am I the only one who smells a rat???
