I was at IBM for a number of years in 1990/2000 in Austin and saw massive cuts after they scrapped the retirement plan; They laid off scores of non-exempt employees to save vacation and benefits costs and offered them the same positions as contractors. This shit runs rampant ; "hi tech" careers are really becoming sweat shop type of work environments; Hurry , hurry hurry , we always have time to do it oiver as long as it is on time the 1st time. Oracle; Dell; HP all do the same shit.
They essentially steal open source and repackage it . they do little development .. all issues are pushed upstream . I worked with Canonical on a product with ffreescale and it was horrible results . I will never again touch such a turd
They have yet to make a cent in profit

Austin does have something no Californian will ever see : homes you can actually purchase on a working wage as an investment . The vast number of Californians live pay check to pay check living in over priced rental properties and after a decades of working likely won't have 2 pennies to rub together to show for it.
Quite honestly - if Bing , FB, google , yahoo , blah blah - disappeared would they really be missed ?
They produce nothing other than hordes of advertising spam . Remember the days before that crap existed .. young adults could actually have a face to face conversation , working meant doing something other than browsing the internet for links to share among co-workers ...
But your agile scum master knows what is better ! We don't need design docs -- just keep grinding away until it passes CI/CD smoke test ! We can re-do NEXT TIME . . if you don't follow the group cult culture you will be viewed as a undesirable and not a team player

... and are that ignorant to entrust someone who will spend the majority of their time LOOKING FOR THEIR REAL NEXT FULL TIME JOB , instead of taking care of business ... deserves all the shitte they get .
