Jeremy Corbyn wins Labour leadership election

Re: @TheVogon - Pyhrric victory

@LucreLout

You seem blissfully ignorant of the fact there are more unemployed people than jobs available, meaning no matter what someone does to improve themselves, they cannot get a job. At the same time, the Conservatives have increased barriers to education and the general 'betterment' you speak of, and are increasing the amount of debt young people have to bear to get it (increased tuition fees, removal of grants especially for poorer students).

Take your anti-poor spite elsewhere.

Jeremy Corbyn: My part in his glorious socialist triumph

DaveFace

Let's follow through this rationale: because one (or many) economies with socialist qualities have had failures, all further economies incorporating similar principles are not worth considering.

So, where does that leave capitalism? There is nowt substantially different now than in 2008, so the cycle will inevitably continue and there will be another crash. Thus, capitalism is..not worth considering either?

Maybe - and hear me out here - we could debate the merits of both systems and work towards a compromise, where we balance the needs of the overall citizenry with the 'needs' of a few to make loads of money. Rather than ignorantly ignoring an entire side of the political spectrum because you remember some bad stuff about it once.

Just a thought.

Sound and battery: 20 portable Bluetooth speakers

Cambridge Audio Go

Surprised the review didn't mention that at high volumes, this speaker literally shakes itself across a desk. There is so little grip on the bottom that the giant bass port on the back shakes the unit so hard that it doesn't keep still.

Re: A good whine

Not quite true, really - FLAC is a way of avoiding needless MP3 compression artifacts. I listen to FLAC on my home speakers, and convert it down to 256kb/s MP3 for my phone and car stereo where quality is less important. Same with HD video - I will seek out high quality video because I don't like seeing compression artifacts. It's not going to ruin a film, but I'd rather not see it.

Boycott Firefox, gay devs urge as Mozilla appoints JavaScript daddy as CEO

Re: Shakes Head

Nope, it doesn't work like that, and most people here seem to be missing the point. Eich supported a bill that prevents gay people from having a different point of view. He attempted to force his views onto others, which makes him fair game.

If Eich doesn't want gay marriage, he's free to not get one, or to personally disagree with someone getting one. You may have a point if these developers were quitting for that alone. But as soon as you try and stop other people marrying because of your personal opinion, you're no longer just expressing a different point of view - you're trying to make others live by it.

Facebook's Zuckerberg buttonholes Obama, rages against NSA dragnet spying

DaveFace

Not quite - for all those calling Zucker a hypocrite, he's not far removed from one but there is a difference. When you sign up to Facebook you are consent to data-mining, assuming it is between you and advertisers.

The problem, as ever, is that the NSA/GCHQ are data-mining without consent.
