Sysadmin's £100,000 revenge after sudden sacking

Tezla P

Late to the thread, but with an idea...

First off, IANAL and don't know much about employment law, but does the moment the IT Director calling James somehow 'reverse' their argument for that redundancy to have occurred in the first place and given him a credible argument to sue them for wrongful dismissal? As another El Reg commentator mentioned, the moment of being escorted off the building in such circumstances meant that the company should have never called him again, or had legal access to call his number other than admin in dealing with his P45 etc.

Testing Motorola's Moto G third-gen mobe: Is it still king of the hill?

1st Gen Moto G Owner

I've been waiting for the 3rd gen release, and the only version I want is the 2GB/16GB edition, except apart from it appearing on Amazon France for about £160ish I can't find a UK version since everybody seems to be selling the 8GB one, let alone cheap when sellers are advertising over the £200 mark (namely Motorola on Amazon).

In the ukhotdeals forum mentioning the France deal, someone had mentioned the Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 at £125 as a great alternative and much higher specced than the Moto: 2GB RAM, 16GB Storage, MicroSD expansion, 3000mah battery, 5.5" Full HD IPS screen, Snapdragon 615, 13MP back/5MP front camera. After reading the reviews I've ordered one, although I don't know when it'll arrive since there are stock issues but I'm willing to wait. Pity the Moto G seems to be pricing itself out of the budget section but at least they gave it a needed shot in the arm in the first place. My 1st gen is still my main phone and was a brilliant purchase when it came out, and when the Ultra arrives, it will happily find a new home replacing my Mums dying Galaxy Ace.

Avast doing an AVG?

@Lee D

I used to use AVG donkeys years ago until they started going the crapify route, and I've been using Avast for the past few years but they've been going the annoying popup sales route these past few months. So last week I bit the bullet and went with Comodo anti virus alongside their firewall I'd been using for years, which unfortunately decided to nuke all my firewall rules when it installed its combo version but other than that it's been fine. I wonder if I'll have to do this all again in a few years time, I hope not though.

Ant colony optimisation algorithms, anyone?

A while ago there was a program on TV about a team of researchers being filmed building an ant colony in a lab armed with cameras in order to really observe their behaviour.

One relevant snippet was how ant behaviours have inspired Ant colony optimisation algorithms, which the program mentioned has really helped with routes for shipping. Just thought I'd throw that into the conversation, and the "go" icon for the improved movement inspired by ants :-)

Silly Universities

Well at least he has a list of universities he doesn't need to "take seriously" when he fills out his UCAS application. Good on him and his school for giving him that chance.
