Devs ask Microsoft for real .NET universal apps: Windows, Mac, iOS, Android

Stimpy77

I think the article misses the point of "Universal" and of the linked suggestion

Microsoft has stated that Windows 10 is the final version of Windows, that any subsequent versions will be updates to the 10 platform. Therefore the "universal" semantic is appropriate because 10 is the not only long-term but permanent Windows platform for the company. Meanwhile, iOS and Android code compatibility (though not binary compatibility) is coming via the "Bridges" APIs, https://dev.windows.com/en-us/bridges

Windows 10 Start menu replacements shifting like hot cakes

I'll tell you why I need Start8

I actually really like the Windows 10 start menu entirely. Except it has one critical flaw. I can't find anything without scrolling to it to click on it. If I search for any program I've installed, I'll get files scattered throughout my hard drive, and I used to get web hits till I turned that off, but Start menu search can't even find most desktop apps I've installed that have icons in the start menu. If I could turn off ALL OTHER search results in the search feature including documents and more, I would. All I ever want from the search functionality is to find my installed programs, PERIOD.

Who thinks Microsoft Edge sucks? Erm, Microsoft

Stimpy77

Edge doesn't suck though, and it's not IE. Microsoft is dropping every single feature that made IE IE, including ActiveX support, layout quirks, several vendor prefixes, VBScript, and lots, lots more. They're doing this as a standards obedience effort. http://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2015/05/06/a-break-from-the-past-part-2-saying-goodbye-to-activex-vbscript-attachevent/

CyberStreet = Sesame Street

In case it was missed (seems it was), the "Cyber Street" was clearly themed in accordance to Sesame Street as its inspiration. If you don't know what that is, it might be an American thing. Google it.
