"We learned of one firm where the ‘design oriented’ UX designers didn’t understand SQL well and a single delete from the front end actually was a delete all. Wasn’t pretty."

I that what you learned was that no UI should EVER EVER be crafting SQL to send to a backend.

Nope, they sold off everything to pay for this little list of gems:

That photo looks like a composite for me. The iron is too much in focus for the narrow focal plane on the PCB and there's something 'wrong' looking about the tip in relation to its surroundings.

I have painful memories of that one. The HSF on my then-brand new 1400 fell off because I hadn't secured it properly to the lugs on the socket. There was a *thunk* followed by no more than 2 seconds of "wtf was that?" time before black screen, blue smoke and a funny smell. 120 quid up the chimney.

Re: I feel it in the air

I've returned an SSD that decided not to be compatible with the laptop it was designated for. They accepted it back within the 7 day period no questions asked. I was very careful to keep everything including the packaging in pristine condition while testing the SSD.

Re: weird design decision

Supply chain was my reaction too. They sourced a camera. They sourced a LED. They sourced an MCU to link them together, job done.

What people seem to be glossing over here is that reprogramming the firmware is possible from USER SPACE. In any operating system this is a *massive* fail and is exactly the sort of system-wide damage that running in user space is designed to prevent. I would expect an OS patch to be forthcoming post haste.
