The real difference
Samsung has a real R&D dept. researching real, proper, properly patentable stuff, whilst Apple patents software abstracts and appearance.
I know who I'd like to see win.
I'm not going to mention rectangle/rounded/corner because, frankly, that's such a tired meme & anyone posting a reference to it now, or in the future, should just be null routed. Oh ! Some twat already has. Oh what a clever fucker they must be......

Simply: No.
Back in the late 70's or early 80's (memory is fading) I worked in a metal engineering company, we won a sub-contract to machine forgings (forgings FFS!) for what ultimately (we didn't know this at the time) turned out to be a simple earth spike. i.e. a piece of metal you pushed into the ground to earth equipment & was generally left in the bloody ground when Tommy moved on. Disposable you might say.
OK, details: We were provided forgings, by the 10's of thousands, and we had to machine a point on the pointy end (which was already pointy) & drill & tap a hole (0BA if I recall correctly) on the fat end. After setting up the old capstan to do this we quoted 2 or 3 pence a spike & got the contract. We thought it was an excellent deal, as we only needed an apprentice to load the hopper, it utilised an EOL machine, we got scrappage for the swarf & it earned money.
We discovered, many years later, that each spike was sold to the MOD for £15.00 a pop.

Not an interesting metric really, as most users do their best to avoid ads.
Best metric is empirical; I've seen many arty-farty, die hard ifanboys ditch the iphone for the S4 and the "buzz" following the switch is loud. Apparently, it's just a better phone!
I've run the gamut of work phones: <insert whatever brand you like, I've had em all> but watching my, positively ancient, brother in law eulogising about his new S4 only tells me to ignore the "pundit's" advice that Samsung's share price is set to tumble.
PS gone back to using my trusty 7 year old Nokia. Can get a signal on that bugger when nowt else can, and as I'm away from urban centres most of my time, that matters !!
