Amazon accused of grossly underreporting COVID-19 cases to US labor agency

Re: Infected cases

Our entire office is double jabbed. In September all of us tested positive for covid after it was brought into the office by one lady who had been visiting her grandmother in hospital (1 in 3 transmissions happen in hospital with covid). Now none of us had strong symptoms, I had practically no symptoms but we all tested positive, for about a week or so and since then we all test positive for the antibodies on the finger prick test and we didn’t before.

The vaccine mandates are for governments to help relieve pressure on hospitals temporarily, it’s got nothing to do with stopping the spread scientifically speaking. But this is going to need to happen every year to account for new variants. I’m not up for that, il have the booster but then if they start talking about a 4th jab I’m going to say no, it gets to the point when a young, healthy person like me should be relying on my immune system and not risking yearly rushed vaccinations.

Apple files fresh appeal to stop court order demanding external payment systems in iOS apps

Ignore the Apple hater sheep.

You aren’t a “luser”. People just love to hate Apple and it’s users, or rather they love to follow the crowd, to be seen hating on Apple and it’s users. These are the real “Apple sheep”. Apple make very good computing solutions and software there’s nothing to be ashamed of buying from them.

Half of it is money, Apple are extremely rich and they charge a lot, some people hate that. Look at Elon Musk, he’s done the world a huge service with satellite internet, electric car innovation, he’s made it a lot cheaper to get satellites in space. But none of that matters, he’s hated because he’s a billionaire and he like to put his face out there.

Just ignore it, be happy with what you’ve got. The chances are most Apple critics paid iPhone money for a phone that’s now 2 years old, not receiving the latest updates and worth about 10% what they paid for at resale.

Scubadynamo

They have the right because that’s the terms of service everyone agrees to when they buy an iPhone. But it’s not just Apple, Sony, MS, Nintendo all charge similar amounts to developers, sometimes even more. Steam charge developers 30% to sell games on their windows app, they don’t even own the platform they sell on.

Really the question is, what gives people the idea that they shouldn’t have to pay Apple anything to sell anything in their store? If you sell on Amazon you pay Amazon, if you sell on eBay you pay eBay. And as mentioned, if you sell your software on a games console you pay those owners too. What’s different with Apple?

Thousand-dollar iPhone X's Face ID wrecked by '$150 3D-printed mask'

Scubadynamo

Nothing to worry about

This is actually probably quite difficult to do for your average thief. Id be comfortable with face ID if I knew this was the length someone had to go to get past the lock screen on my phone. And surely this is harder than obtaining someones fingerprints and replicating them.

Im quite impressed by Face-ID to be honest. I was worried it was going to be like its Android counterparts that can easily be fooled by a photo and often require you to line your phone up exactly to your eyes. Apple appear to be pioneers of this tech. Which is odd because usually they wait for it to mature on the competition before implementing it on their own devices.

Still wouldnt get an iPhone X though, first gen Apple products ought to be avoided in my experience. The iPad 1 and the Apple watch are good examples as to why.

Hey, you know why it's called the iPhone X? When you see Apple's repair bill, your response will be X-rated

Scubadynamo

Oh once again, the people who dont understand mobile phones leaving comments calling iPhone users sheep or stupid etc. I work in a Network Operations Center for a large corporation. We are all well educated and well paid professionals and more than half of us are using iPhones. Its the people who call us stupid who are the real lowest common denominators.

UK PC prices have risen 30% in a year since the EU referendum

Lots of arguing here about how good/bad brexit is. Well thats pointless, brexit is happening regardless now, especially since Gina Millers efforts passed it into Law.

Part of the reason we have a tumbling exchange rate is investor confidence. Right now we have 48% of the country telling everyone that the UK is about to implode. Im not suggesting that remainers are responsible for the lower exchance rate. But they really ought to get behind brexit, especially considering that it is now definitely happening. Brexit was never going to be easy but hysterically going about telling everyone that the country is ruined because of it will only make things worse.

Yep, it's true: Android is the poor man's phone worldwide

Scubadynamo

I switched to Android after 8 years of iphone in February. I cannot wait to get an iphone again. So much so that I will sell my G3 and replace it with the next new iPhone. Android just isnt as nice, its slower, less reliable and I get ads come up as notifications on some dodgy apps and I could go on.

On paper Android looks great but the reality is that its a bit rubbish.

Phones 4u website DIES as wounded mobe retailer struggles to stay above water

Scubadynamo

This is a positive thing.

Im glad about this. Phones4u are horrible. The way their staff hound you in the shopping center wont be missed. Cant think of anything else they do. No after sales support, whenever I have had a problem they wash their hands of it and tell you to contact the network operator.

Good Riddance.

Spotify boasts 10 million paying subscribers ... Um, is that all?

Scubadynamo

Musicians complaining about not getting enough money. Your product is worth what people will pay for it, not what they think people should pay for it. Netflix is cheaper than spotify. Which I find a bit nuts considering I would be prepared to pay more for a film than a song. I think musicians need to realise that music isnt worth anything, album sales, gig tickets are worth a lot. They need to make sure their music is on the albums being sold and they are playing live gigs. They should be glad Spotify is there, after all it allows universal access to your music.

As for spotify, if your reading this can you please let me install the old iOS app. Ive asked you 3 times in e-mails and you keep being patronising in your replies and asking me to try rebooting my phone etc. Theres nothing wrong with my phone, just your new app. Please let me download the old app.

'iPhone 6' with '4.7-inch' display 'coming soon', but '5.5-incher' 'delayed'

Surely a bigger screen would use more power so being able to fit a bigger battery is like necessity rather than an advantage?

PlayStation daddy on new PS4: She's ALL 'PLAY', NO 'Station' this time

Fed up with hearing about specs

Im so fed up with this spec battle between the two consoles. IT DOESN'T MATTER!

These are games consoles NOT PC's, they will play games at a decent standard for that game for the next x amount of years. Every time a new console is released people start analysing the specs and making assumptions. The average user isnt interested in how much bandwidth the RAM has in a console etc, more on what games it will run and how the controller feels.

I feel comparing them to PC's is silly, a PC from November 2005 that cost around £280 wouldn't stand a chance of playing many games now yet at the time I remember several articles of people building "xbox 360 beating" machines (that usually cost a lot more than £280). Ive just built a PC last week (due to needing one asap) and it is technically higher specced than either of the new consoles but I bet its obsoleted sooner than a next gen console.

Also try building a decent gaming PC now for £430, it might match on paper (maybe) but itl be big, loud and unable to play games at max settings on 1080p.

As for the resolution argument I dont think it matters so much on a TV when your sat on the sofa, on a pc when your 50cm away from the monitor definitely, if it was that important MS and Sony would have ensured 1080p minimum support for all games.

On paper it looks like the PS4 is more capable but I doubt itl make much real world difference, I really cant see MS letting Sony getting ahead of them by that much, Both are custom systems as far as im aware and both probably have advantages and disadvantages but at the end of the day what appears on the screen is going to be quite similar. I think the biggest disadvantage of both machines is a lack of a SSD!

Personally I think Sony will sell more initially because of the bad PR floating around the xbox one and its high price in comparison. Day one updates and whatever aren't an issue in my eyes, who doesn't buy a console because they have to download a patch? Ive not pre-ordered a console and will probably wait a year or so to buy one because then we will know exactly what advantages and disadvantages there are. Right now I want a steampad more than anything...

BTW im no expert however ive been playing PC/Console games for around 20 years and ive built all my games pc's myself.

Oh yeah and as for who copied who with AMD and Intel, who cares, just buy the cheapest chip that gives you the performance and functions you need, ive had both over the years and they've both been fine (except the P4 Prescott...shouldve gone AMD then but that was a long time ago now!) don't understand why there is brand loyalty with these two?
