Really No Comparison, yet!

China was and will always be a great country. But sadly at the moment, the joint is run by a lingering gang of old men who still cling to the outdated notions and ideas about how to modernizer and grow China’s true potential. This gang is terribly afraid of loosing control of the whole thing. So beyond those lucky ones living in Hong Kong and Shanghais, the bulk of Chinese web surfers are allowed only a few very poor web waves! They may be imitators now, but god help us when they start to get it right!

Another Spending American

I guess I am still not sure which LCD or plasma screens to get for my home. Actually, my wife is an uncontrollable “movie addict”! Any screen that I eventually purchase will need the prior approval of my wife! She has not a single clue as to what the hell a LCD, or plasma or CRT screen is! However, she does know how she likes her movies to look! Therefore, with this in mind, I’ll try to find her the screen that makes her eyes light up! Myself, I’ll need but a simple plasma screen, perhaps 32”, hanging on my bedroom wall, where all of my important TV watching occurs!

Nevertheless, there is another aspect to all of this, where I cannot help but feel a sharp twinge of pain, remembering a time when America built most of the best electronic devices. Today, Americans just buy the best electronics around. We have lost the ability to build or create anything of worth today. Now, just like the fading days of the Roman Empire, America spends away, it’s fading wealth and glory, while every 1st, 2nd, and 3rd World nation out produces the great American nation! It’s sad and pitiful, but excuse me, I think my new Toshiba screen has just arrived!

Who Really Gets the Big Bucks

Being a writer, composer and performer for more than 50 years, there is an obvious large part of me that believes that the artist should be fairly compensated for his or her art. Generally, the public has always been more than considerate in compensating the artist. This is not about the public paying for the music, it’s is all about ASCAP and BMI and other organizations out there collecting royalties for the record companies that have successfully ripped off nearly every popular recording artist and composer since the 1930’s. I would be totally supporting any effort that would benefit the composers and performers, but this beef is all about the greedy record companies. And before some of you militant members of ASCAP or BMI start screaming about the plight of the helpless composers and performers, just be honest with yourselves for a moment and think of the answer to this question; who gets 80% or more of the profits from all record sales, live concerts, and related commercial marketing of products representing the artist? That’s right, the same bunch pushing to squeeze the life out of internet radio, which has been the only avenue for most performers trying to get air time for their work.
