First-day-on-the-job dev: I accidentally nuked production database, was instantly fired

This is soooo stupid... Firing this junior won't solve anything. He'd never do it again and this was clearly due to the stupidity of the people of this company. Not protecting prod data, not having a solid backup in place, requiring prod access to create a dev/test database. All of this is so amateuristic. I can hardly feel sorry for the company. It's their own stupid fault, if...

If it's true. Maybe this guy screwed up another way and just made it all up to save his reputation.

FBI Director wants 'adult conversation' about backdooring encryption

Does he really think that if he forces tech companies to provide a backdoor, criminals won't start encrypting messages themselves?

Encryption with a backdoor is useless. If the police can use it, anyone can use it.

It's worrying people that don't understand the matter have these decision making positions.

Who's right on crypto: An American prosecutor or a Lebanese coder?

This is pure theory

Some criminals are smart enough to do the encryption themselves and they will never create a hole. Legislation won't stop them. They don't keep laws. That's what makes them criminals.

Others will hire experts to seamlessly protect their phones. So the police will always depend on the stupidity of people leaving their stuff unprotected.

As time goes by, awareness will grow. This is a war that can't be won.

Google patent: THROAT TATTOO with lie-detecting mobe microphone built-in

"it's often difficult to carry on a clear conversation using a mobile phone". Well, go to a quieter place then...

Don't mess around with my body. Period. The only advantage of this Patent is that it keeps other lunatics to do the same thing, so we can concentrate on Google's quirks.
