I saw BlackBerry show this exploit a week or 2 back at their security summit. They were using it as an example of the current reality of IoT. They uploaded some malware (looked like a shell script) ran it changed the LCD to read "dead" and pumped all the fake drugs out of the machine. The video is online for the interested. It was at the end of the show.

Bye bye, booth babes. IT security catwalk RSA nixes sexy outfits
Re: You know they're still going to be there... right? @berserko1
Obviously you missed VMworld last year when VMjoint had Tori Black and several other port star booth babe's out at nightly events. A very good portion of the babe's are either models or adult actresses. I don't have an issue with either profession but certainly they're not going to get me to stop by and seen you third rate wares you're peddling.
You know they're still going to be there... right?
It says conference floor however companys will post their "babes" outside the conference center on the street with prizes etc. This same thing sort of happens at VMworld every year there is a few people from VMware that do hourly "ho strolls" to weed out the obvious porn star booth babes. The other shenanigan that vendors will pull is put a sign (or toss out a tweet) announcing their obvious porn star booth babe up saying come to our off site shindig tonight mix and mingle with your peers and half a dozen porn stars. This new "rule" really changes nothing. Usually the vendors that stoop to the porn star booth babes have nothing worth looking at in the first place. Their credibility is nearly shot by the porn star booth babe. It's never influenced any of my purchasing decisions. Call me crazy I go for the technology... and the free beer...

Re: Thought I was getting old
There's plenty of reasons to have your lights controlled. If I get home after dark I have an event soon as I unlock the door my entrance way lights come on so I can see where I'm going. I close the door wait 2 minutes my door auto locks behind me. When I leave if the entrance way lights are on as soon as I lock the door it turns off the lights in the entrance way. I have an event that runs when I go to bed it turns out the lights around the house in case we forgot any and double checks all the locks on the doors and makes sure they've been secured and adjusts the thermostat to a comfortable temp for sleeping.
I'm using a Mi Casa Verde nice little open multi-protocol automation controller.
I can't wait for Aplle to claim they invented Home Automation...

SOHO = Garbage
I gave up on this SOHO garbage years ago when I wasn't cursing dd-wrt for hanging I was doing recovery from backups because its configuration was corrupt. I decided to get a Cisco PIX 515e (can be had for a song on ebay) and recently upgraded to a ASA 5510 and "set it and forgot it" I rebooted the PIX once in in the 3 years I had it in production and haven't needed to bounce the ASA yet. And used Cisco POE powered AP's are worth every penny. I might not have the latest "N" technology but I find my "G" faster than most peoples "N" garbage anyways.
Cash-strapped students hungrily eye up old, unloved racks
I'd definitely go used.
There is so much used gear that can be had for cheap or free. I have an 16 blade (8 blades are populated)c7000 Blade chassis a former employer was throwing in the garbage and gave to me for nothing. 104 AMD 2.5Ghz Cores and 640GB Memory and I still have all the money. I have it running in the basement on 2 115v 30A Circuits but it can easily run on one. I have 32TB of equallogic storage and a 12TB EMC courtesy of the same former employer.
