Google says go-go-Gadget Ads

Chris Williams (Written by Reg staff)

@Stu Reeves

Hi Stu,

I'm of the old-fashioned school of thought that says reporting shouldn't be affected in any way by the publication's advertisers. The adverts on this or any other Reg page have nothing to do with the facts of this story or my opinions on them. Thanks,

@Tim Lake

Hi Tim,

I'd have thought the same, except for that I asked the company what had happened to it, and they responded by telling me about how they can remove anything they please for whatever reason they please, not that it could be a fault.

Glad to see it back though.

@John A Blackley

Hi John,

The $89m is what they're spending on the blocking software. The $189m is the cost of the broader NetAlert programme, which includes education and campaigns among other things. Apologies if the piece didn't make that clear.

We hate the codheads,

The smelly codheads,

They're only happy on Giro day,

Their Mam's out dealing,

Their Dad's out stealing,

Please don't take my hubcaps away.

Free software campaigners stonewalled at BBC

@Morely Dotes

"Firstly, I believe that is either an outright lie, or El Reg's reporter made the assumption that the Beeb's partners demanded *Microsoft* DRM."

No. The BBC says its content partners demand DRM with timebombing, i.e. Windows Media.

Browser Incompatability

While desktop Linux is a niche product, the issue goes beyond operating system tribalism.

iPlayer is Internet Explorer-only too, even though Firefox now has about a third of the browser market.
