What do UK and Iran have in common? Both want to outlaw encrypted apps

Benito

Is it ironic that law enforcement is campaigning for encrypted communications to be more easily intercepted, while the criminal gangs who support terrorism are rubbing their hands in glee at the thought of more easily interceptable communications?

The Raspberry Pi: Is it REALLY the saviour of British computing?

Fragile?

Is the usb micro connector fragile? I've not managed to break one on any device yet, despite some abuse that would make some old connectors cringe. It was designed to be robust, here's an excerpt from the usb Wikipedia article:

"The newer Micro-USB receptacles are designed for up to 10,000 cycles of insertion and removal between the receptacle and plug, compared to 1,500 for the standard USB and 5,000 for the Mini-USB receptacle. This is accomplished by adding a locking device and by moving the leaf-spring connector from the jack to the plug, so that the most-stressed part is on the cable side of the connection. This change was made so that the connector on the less expensive cable would bear the most wear instead of the more expensive micro-USB device."

Screw Internet-of-Things: Boffins build Internet-of-Sound UNDERWATER

I thought we'd established the physical layer was sound. It wouldn't surprise me if they'd been using UDP at the network layer for some time. Maybe they even invented it...

What happens when the dolphins decipher the tcpip traffic? They're supposed to be clever after all. Could we talk with them? Could we chat with them online?

Loathed wiggly-word CAPTCHAs morph into 'fun' click-'n'-drag games

In the past we've had adverts that try to catch your attention in exactly this way. "Play a silly game to win an ipod" which I'm conditioned not to touch. But now we can expect ads that might imitate a captcha to get you to interact with them, but are not captcha's at all, just trojan captchas.
