Hypocrisy

The Olympics is meant to be non-professional and non-political so why do hypocritical westerners with blood on their hands (US & UK illegal wars of occupation in Iraq and Afghanistan) and their representatives always bring politics into it when others host the Olympics. Yet they would complain bitterly if others brought politics into it when they themselves host the games.

Its just sheer baloney. Whatever the merits of Sudan, that should be resolved by an independent UN (not the subservient one we currently have which is chained by the ankles to the war-mongering US) its no excuse for beating the Chinese about the head over. They are not even involved! The US is much more directly involved in Israel and its immoral, inhumane and illegal seige and occupation of the Palestinians.

And the Chinese have been careful to separate politics from the games of the Olympics.

Anyway who gives a toss about Spielberg. Phone home Spielberg phone home - there are illegal wars being conducted there under your very nose!

Keep the terror conspiracy alive

They were deported to keep the so-called terror "threat" alive and save the faces of the incompetent police who arrested them in the first place. As they say there's no smoke without fire, and the myth that if they were deported then they must have been terrorists would be kept alive and the compliant ignorant media follows suit and stops asking questions.

Second Life will dwarf the web in ten years

Of course the CEO of Second Life (SL) is going to talk up his toy and his "bread and butter" gravy train. No doubt some players are making real money out of SL, but all this talk of "it dwarfing the whole of the web" is garbage. Firstly SL is part of the web so by that very fact it can't dwarf itself, secondly no matter how interesting they make SL, at the end of the day it is still an artificial simulated environment. It can't feed people, you can't grow real food in SL, or manufacture any of the things needed in real life. Having an abundance of machines running churning away serving no real purpose wasting energy runs contrary to our concerns about the environment. SL is a fantasy world just like "Harry Potter" (HP) is a fantasy in literature. SL will no more save the day for IBM & SUN than HP will save the day for Wizards and Warlocks. Only the creators get richer at the expense of all the mugs who buy into these. But neither serves any real purpose in real life.

In fact the only effect I have noticed of joining SL recently has been to be at the receiving end of a never ending stream of a whole pile of garbage emails from SL groups. So in fact soon, SL garbage emails will dwarf the amount of SPAM being churned.

Austin - of course scientists are smart. Your statement whilst accurate is nevertheless dumb.

The scientists are obviously talking about spiral galaxies "as seen from Earth". The reason being humans are naturally "human-o-centric" as we base our "universe" on our position within it! So the question of "top or bottom" does not arise (DOH!) in terms of this project of identifying clockwise or anticlockwise spin and in fact was only raised by you in your confusion that we could possibly see galaxies from either direction?? But we can't as we are confined to Earth or near-Earth (via space telescopes).
