Andrew Luton

CDMA

perhaps i'm wrong - but HSDPA is a type of CDMA? (W-CDMA at least)

3 gets Desire

firmware..

surely it'll just be like the other HTC android phones out there, and you'll be able to pick the ROM of your choice and use that?

i.e. any tinkering by 3 can easily be overcome.

PC firm offers Ultra-Quiet Xbox 360

360 vs ps3

All 360 games can be installed to hard drive so long as you have the latest firmware- going right the way back to Perfect Dark Zero, to current games that have only just been released.. FEAR 2.

I've got a 120gb HDD in mine, is fantastic..

I own both but i've bought nearly all the dual format titles on the 360, the PS3 doesn't seem to quite be upto it.

I'm sure in the end once someone figures out how to get the most from the PS3 it'll be an awesome machine, but right now it just can't compete with the 360 for gaming - though it has to be said my PS3 with Bluray remote and PlayTV (+500gb HDD) is a fantastic media centre.

contd..

Oh and to be fair i found an old xbox 360 harddrive on ebay and bought a 120gb HDD from ebuyer and swapped the put the 120 drive in the 360's drive case. You can have as many games installed at a time as your hard drive will hold - i think the average 360 game uses about 6gigs of space.

Thumb Down

If only..

This would be perfect for me, if only the ethernet ports were gigabit and not 100mbps.

I'll stick with my single 200mbps homeplug unit and gigabit switch now until someone comes up with the goods!

How long until the shortwave obsessives see mention of homeplug and start going ape?! ;)

'MS rep' claims he predicted NXE RRoD woes

Flame

more people using 360s?

Not that i want to defend MS.. but i imagine this spate of RRoD's has probably got something to do with the fact that a lot of people (like me) barely used their 360 for 6 months or so (actually longer than that!!), then NXE comes along.. "oooh let's check it out", so 360's that havent been used for a while are probably getting a few months work out which probably causes issues if they've gathered the amount of dust mine had!

Powerline Ethernet standardisation effort still stuck

homeplug

In my experience 85mbps homeplug is a damn site faster than 802.11g (through a wall anyway), and the Homeplug AV (200mbps) would no doubt be lots quicker.

Wifi is often just too conjested i find now days, Homeplug negates this issue.

YMMV but i'd definitely recommend, i've been running a 85mbps homeplug network for about 3 years now i guess (some of teh units are the old (interoperable) 14mbps standard) and i can't remember the units ever causing any network issues, plug and play as it's meant to be - everyone should get a good homeplug network!

Sorry shortwave people!

Bretons turn on Britons

Andrew Luton

This English / British issue..

"So just to clarify, are the "incomers" in the article a) Britons, b) "a large population of English" or c) Brits? As a Scot I personaly wouldn't describe myself as any of the above but I realise us lot and the Welsh are often times seen as Britons or Brits by other nations. Just wondered what the facts behind the article are. Anyone know?"

The population of the UK was 60 Million mid 2005, and the population split goes as follows:

England, 84% of the population, Wales, 5%, scotland, 8.5% and N. Ireland 2.5%.

Consider the richest part of the UK by a fair stretch is the south east of England and that geographically it's far far closer to Brittany then any of the others.

I think it'd be fair to assume the vast majority of those buying homes in northern France (to live or as holiday homes) will be English (excepting the French of course).

Though i think it's mostly a pointless conversation, because those English living there are British, just as the scottish, Welsh and Northen Irish are - regardless of which part of Britain they live / were born / have some vague claim to belonging.
