NASA funds new supersonic airliner research

Tromos

Re: Supersonic flight

The main things that hampered Concord economically were range and noise. One or the other, or a combination of both, severely restricted the range of routes available. Solve both of these problems and there wouldn't be a major carrier without supersonic options in its fleet. Even just solving one of the problems could make it a viable proposition.

UK.gov could reopen Google's £130m HMRC tax deal, says Parliament

Tromos

It's time this was laid to rest.

Once again it is being said that the rules are responsible for an unfair outcome. So stop playing around with Google (as they are far from being the only ones taking advantage), write off past losses, and CHANGE THE SODDING RULES.

Feds spank Asus with 20-year audit probe for router security blunder

Tromos

What a waste of time

"Another researcher found the default login credentials on every router set the username and password to "admin," which is the first thing an attacker would try."

It took a second researcher to find this??? Next time ask an attacker as they seem to get straight to it!

LG’s modular G5 stunner shuns the Lego aesthetic

Tromos

Sorry LG, the idea is doomed.

The 1200 mAH additional battery power is a welcome and useful addition, but it begs the question as to why the larger amount of power isn't there in the first place. Also wouldn't it be cheaper to implement in the form of one battery rather than two? LG are on a loser here as it will only take some competitor to come up with a similar phone with these functions built in from the start and without the overhead of modular connectivity which can therefore win on price. I don't see anyone buying on the strength of future 'must have' modules as LG would already be pushing these if they could think of any. If some ideas were to come up next year, do you think LG would pursue them unless they had huge sales this year?

Buffer overflows in 2016 are an embarrassment

Given that buffer overflows were an embarrassment decades ago, it amazes me that processor memory management hasn't stepped up to take care of this and take it out of the hands of the coders. You can't mend stupid.

Re: Remove names

Not as simple as just removing names. Give me the postcodes, age and ethnicity and I'll put most of the names back. A full postcode is far too much information for any reasonable measure of anonymity (same applies to the NHS Care.data debacle). Postal district should be adequate for the vast majority of needs.

Gmail growls with more bad message flags to phoil phishers

Tromos

Not enough

The type of person open to phishing attacks will blithely skip past the question mark icon, or at best, assume it is part of the mail as the bank wants to ask a question. Nothing less than a dialog box stating something along the lines of "this email might not be coming from the person/organisation in the 'from' field" will suffice. An option in 'preferences' to supress these messages should be enough to keep the irritation level down in those slightly more aware.

Official UN panel findings on embassy-squatter released. Assange: I'm 'vindicated'

Tromos

One person is not the whole world

This decision carrying the stamp of the United Nations sounds like it has the weight of the entire globe behind it. In actuality, if just one of the three voting in Assange's favour changed their mind, there would be no consensus. Absolutely farcical if a single person is allowed to overturn the laws of the UK, Sweden and Europe as a whole.
