0patch for Patching Win 10 after EOL

For those who will continue using Windows 10 after it goes EOL and want security updates without subscribing to those provided by Redmond (should they choose to offer them, at whatever their price), there is 0patch - https://0patch.com/. Several computers under my wing still running Windows 7 have been utilizing their "micropatch" security updates flawlessly since Win 7 went EOL.

0Patch for Windows 10

Fortunately, 0Patch, the company that came into being offering their proprietary "micropatches" for Windows 7, is also offering patching for Windows 10 (as well as Server 2008 R2) — at a substantial savings compared to Redmond: https://0patch.com/.

Several Win 7 boxes under my care have been utilizing 0Patch since EOL with zero issues. The company is a pleasure to interact with (whenever necessary).

It's getting to be about that time...

For Microsoft, how do you spell relief? L I N U X

Which means that it's time for the devs to shift into high gear so as to be ready and able to start offering at least the most popular Windows apps for Linux by 2020.01.01 (there could also be a big shift in property valuations and sales in and around King County, WA in a couple of years...).

Wow. What a shock. The FBI will get its bonus hacking powers after all

U.S.A., R.I.P.

Yes, "elections do have consequences." However, in what other democratic republic can the one who garnered the most votes (even by a substantial margin) still lose the election?

We may well be about to reach that point beyond which the answer to the question, "What do you think about the United States of America?" will be,"It was a good idea."

Pohl On Radio

Frederik Pohl also penned a number of the original stories that were adapted for the longest running, and arguably finest, Sci-Fi radio series ever produced, X Minus One, which aired on NBC for almost three years (1955-58) and spanned 130 episodes, all of which survive (and are available for free at the Internet Archive -- https://archive.org/details/OTRR_Certified_X_Minus_One).

The program opened with announcer Fred Collins delivering the countdown, leading into this classic introduction (although later shows were partnered with Galaxy Science Fiction rather than Astounding Science Fiction):

Countdown for blastoff... X minus five, four, three, two, X minus one... Fire!

[Rocket launch SFX]

From the far horizons of the unknown come transcribed tales of new dimensions in time and space. These are stories of the future; adventures in which you'll live in a million could-be years on a thousand may-be worlds.

The National Broadcasting Company, in cooperation with Street and Smith, publishers of Astounding Science Fiction, presents... X --- Minus --- One.

I especially recommend Pohl’s "Tunnel Under the World," from March 14, 1956. Though he will be missed, his gifts will continue to enrich us 'til the end of time.
