British snoops at GCHQ knew FBI was going to arrest Marcus Hutchins

Valdearg

"One person familiar with the matter told the paper: "Our US partners aren't impressed that some people who they believe to have cases against [them] for computer-related offences have managed to avoid extradition.""

Gee, I wonder why. Maybe because the US has a nice habit of making up evidence against our IT people.

"Happy with systemd? You won't be one day"

Not using something because there's a possibility of it not working later on is a bit of a dumb reason really.

Eventually you're going to have problems with anything. I don't expect my car to be entirely problem free for the next 50 years, I'm going to expect to need to do some maintenance on it at some point.

Re: Cant turn off Cortana without lose of search ? ? ?

You can just sign out of Cortana, not too difficult. Local search is all still there, they just moved the option to a bit of a neater area within Cortana settings.

BlackBerry inks deal with Amazon to get Android apps on its mobes

Valdearg

Probably a really good move. The BB10 OS is really nice along with the Android app layer improvements are very nice.

I was really paranoid when I read the title in my email and thought it read that they were putting Android onto the BlackBerry hardware. This was something I always wanted to happen, but then I actually went from a Bold 9900 to an Android phone (S4) and still regret it to this day.

Re: Another BE customer that will also be jumping ship

I'm with PlusNet who offer multiple static IPs providing you give good justification for them (I'm sure you can!). You can get 4/8/16 blocks.

I have their unlimited fibre option and have been pretty content really.

Re: Well...if one doesn't USE Windows Defender...

Might I recommend not using an article from nearly two years ago as your evidence?

Chrome lets websites secretly record you?! Google says no, but...

Would this exploit stop the microphone from displaying the "In Use" light on the mic? I have a webcam with in-built mic for Skype and the likes. Highly doubt that it can turn this off.

If you want an IT job you'll need more than a degree, say top techies

Valdearg

Problem is that they don't bother looking at you if you don't have a degree of some form. I also know that a number of larger companies will fast track you into a larger role if you have a relevant degree.

I personally am a recent graduate with a 2:1 in Computing with a year of industry experience (plus OS experience in my personal time) and walked into a reasonable job without any issues.

MS Word deserves DEATH says Brit SciFi author Charles Stross

Stross, quit complaining and finish the next Laundry Files book. You're a great author, I love your work.

Re: Sigh....

Gee, could it possibly be because of the upcoming update to Windows 8.1?

Shocking I know.

Peak Apple: Has ANYONE at all ordered a new iPhone 5c?

Weird how the "cheaper" model is over £200 more than my S4 when I bought it 3 months ago.

Did Google's Waze gobble run rivals off the road? UK watchdog starts probe

Damnit, we don't care about monopoly within the maps area! We just want decent sat nav software!

Come and get it: Feedly Pro hits general availability

Valdearg

I tried the free version and it didn't really agree with me. There were a massive amount of bugs and the user interface is pretty but I found it unusable for how I read RSS feeds.

I'm using NetVibes at the minute, it isn't exactly amazing but it does the job of replacing Google Reader quite nicely.
