I'm late to this but, I'm -glad- they use leadfree solder in most gear these days.

The reason why I'm glad is because when it comes to reworking/repairing equipment, one of the big problems is trying to remove the parts (with heat) without disturbing everything else. Now on the -removal- phase everything is going to melt at the same temperature, which is a pain, you still do it but it's a bit like walking on thin ice, however when you install new parts you typically will use leaded solder/balls for the task, as such you can get your repair done at a lower temperature/faster without disturbing the rest of the board as much a second time.

Big thing I'd like to see them stop using is the dreaded underfill. Corner-bonding I can handle, but underfill is such a royal PITA.

GST/BAS isn't that hard

I hear a lot of people wailing about how hard GST is to sort out for the quarterly BAS. Here's an insight, if you already have your business accounting sorted out properly, and you don't let your income & expense paperwork pile up then it's typically a 5 second wait from your [BAS summary] click to getting your answer, especially for smaller businesses with simpler work-flows. Even manually it's fall-off-log-simple GST_from_income -GST_on_expenses = GST_owed_to_ATO (simple form, fractionally harder if you do export sales or have a capital expenditure).

It's not the BAS/GST's fault if you haven't kept your paperwork up to date; you'll have to do it regardless come EOFY.

(It's like people whining that they end up worse off in the pocket due to 'extra tax' when they move in to the next tax bracket; you don't, the new tax bracket only reflects on income *above* that threshold)

Of course it's 99.999% bunk, but there's a reason to be thankful for these things. It's an attempt to try and drain some money out of those who have more than they know what to do with. They have the money, they want to spend it on something, so this sort of thing is invented precisely to do that and attempt to get some more cash greasing the economy.

They've made things quite a bit easier to get on board to avoid the 30% tax now. 20 minutes on the phone to the IRS and I had my precious EIN which Amazon then gladly consumed from me with another 20 minutes filling out their tempated W8BEN.

Still deploying virtualised XP machines here because some businesses depend on internal websites that can only run on IE+XP (yes, you better believe we tried every combination of IE on W7, and W8 to no avail, even the developers confirm it).

There's also all those ex-gov Core2Duo machines constantly available on eBay that keep the XP [re]installs going.
