Somethings Wrong at El Reg

Matt@ElReg

Re: YouTube "Ad"

Hi AC.

Thank you for reporting this in.

Could I ask that you drop a quick email to webmaster@theregister.co.uk with a few details to help track this ad down? Ideally your geo, OS, browser, and where on the site you saw it.

Many Thanks

Re: The Register making life difficult for readers ...

@oddjobz Sorry about that - it's not obviously not our intention. If you could drop a quick email to webmaster@theregister.co.uk letting us know what country you're in, the OS, browser, and if possible a screenshot; we'll track down the offending ad and kill it.

Re: Site constantly refreshig

Hi What What?

We're not sure what's going on here; but suspect it might be a bad ad. Could you let us know browser details and where you are in the world to webmaaster@theregster.co.uk and we'll dig deeper.

Re: Embeded Flash YouTube

Hi as2003

Thanks for the heads-up on this.

We think we've fixed the problem now if you'd care to take another look.

Re: Continually being asked to approve cookies

Thanks thosrtanner,

We did roll out some site changes the other day, so it's possible we've broken something. I can't replicate the problem at the moment though. What OS & Browser were you using?

Re: Continually being asked to approve cookies

Hi thosrtanner,

Do you mean the little bar at the foot of the page?

The text reads "The Register uses cookies. Some may have been set already. Read about managing our cookies. Please click the button to accept our cookies. If you continue to use the site, we'll assume you're happy to accept the cookies anyway."

The bar should stick around until you dismiss it by clicking "I'm fine with this", and then shouldn't bother you again. It does in itself require a cookie though (to remember that you're ok with cookies!). If this cookie is deleted, the bar will reappear.

@1980s_coder

Our bad. It shouldn't have kept popping up like this. We've fixed it now. Thanks for reporting it.

Re: El Reg's new ads prevent content from loading

Thank you both for the heads-up. It's always appreciated.

We're pretty confident that we've now tracked down the rogue ad, and put a bullet in it. You should be able to get back to enjoying The Reg uninterrupted.

Should you find otherwise; please do shout.

Hi Nick, Greg,

Thanks for reporting this in. It does appear to be a rogue ad or ads. We've now blocked them from delivering on The Reg, so you shouldn't see this problem again.

If this does recur - from this domain or any other - please do let us know and we'll do our best to fix it promptly.

That's a good idea. We'll look into it.

Re: Microsoft Dynamics advert

Hi All,

Thanks for taking the time to report these ad issues.

We've asked the agency who created the ads to edit them such that the video only starts when you hover over the ad for a few seconds, rather than when simply passing the mouse across it. This should prevent the majority of unwanted video plays.
