Four Boys' Own style World War Two heroes to fire your imagination

MrCreasy

Sir Douglas 'Dogsbody' Robert Steuart Bader

..Merits a definite mention, lost both his legs, went to war with the RAF anyway. Got captured and spent the rest of the war trying to escape multiple times, eventually ending up in Colditz. He never let his lack of mobility stop him!

A true testament to the British wartime spirit.

The STEALTH Plug-in Hybrid: Audi A3 e-tron Sportback

Re: This Audi is causing some amusement in France

Or the Mitsubishi Pajero, which they marketed under a different name in LatAm and Spain, as 'Pajero' is basically spanish for wanker.

I have seen a couple of imported versions rolling around in Spain though, and no doubt it causes all sorts of laughs.

Sinclair is back with the Spectrum Vega ... just as rubbish as the ZX

Re: Nah

Back in the 80s, I was rocking a CPC6128 with 3inch internal floppy. It had a dedicated monitor, but we owned an add-on unit to convert it into a tuneable telly. And it actually came with a proper manual. I learned BASIC on that bad-boy, typing out 6+ pages of solid code by hand, to play something resembling arkanoid... Halcyon days.

Good Idea

I think it's a good idea, IDEA being the operative word. Execution is everything, and the missing keys might be a bit problematic.

All of the patents?

I have utmost respect for Elon and what he's doing, including SpaceX and his other dealings, it's obvious he's more interested in furthering the technological prowess of the human race, rather than making a lot of money (which he's obviously not short of).

I do however wonder if his commitment to opening up patents will include the anciliary tech, i.e. falcon wing doors. This is something that could be added to future gas guzzlers, (SUVs and family cars) for example and as a feature that could even make them more attractive, could work against his stated goal of moving away from carbon emitting vehicles.

I was mightily impressed by those doors, when I saw them in action, I'd love to see them more often, but is this part of the Tesla 'Open source patent' plan?

Apple tackles iPhone lock-up cockup with iOS 7.0.2

MrCreasy

Sliding control panel from the lock screen is a liability in any case!

First thing I did after updating to iOS7 was to disable that feature. Who at apple thought it a good idea to let potential thieves activate airplane mode without a password? Totally undermines the point of 'find my iphone'. I like iOS7 but it's far from perfect. However, this particular feature being available from lock screen is an utter fail.

Re: Can't be arsed to check...

Can't be arsed to checkeither, but I agree would make a lovely XBMC stick. 16GB seems like enough to do something useful. I'd certainly buy one if there was something like FireCore to flash it, (I have a flashed AppleTV2 and it's unbeatable for streaming vids off the NAS) but I haven't seen enough yet to know if that would be feasible. I'll be

watching closely.

Re: Battery life

I'm using a 3-year old MBP (2010) and the battery is still at 77% health, swapping out the original drive for an SSD did improve the battery life a little, nonetheless no-where near the 11 hours plus which the author speaks of.
