It's been 5 years already, let's gawp at Microsoft and Nokia's bloodbath

Not uncommon

So once analysed yet another incompetent board puts an increasingly incompetent CEO in charge to run a successful business into the ground. The only good thing was MS (love or hate) did survive.

Look to GEC/Marconi and George Simpson and the mess he left behind

Scary thing is it continues to go on

Times changed

I agree with so much here and as a 40 year tech veteran am still amazed at 2 simple facts that seem to be constantly ignored

1 just because apple charges a lot for items they aren't worth more. All suppliers reduce costs over a production run and the market for 40 years has benefited. It has driven innovation current pricing practices stifle it

2 lack of said innovation and massive increase in reliability means things last and there's no need to change. Can you tell 2 tablets apart?? Phones get changed because we break them not really much else

Here we go again

So the consolidator is worth more than all the bits it consolidates.

Give me a break, this has been tried before and we lost the world economy for 4 years, it was called the dot com bubble. Has no one learned anything?

If we are into the banality of US business employing more lawyers than engineers look no further tham MacDonalds. Its TM, there is a small issue in Scotland where there are thousands of MacDonalds with lineage longer than a burger recipe who cannot legally call their busines after their longstanding family name for fear of being prosecuted for 'passing themselves off' as being associated with a burger chain. The thin end of the wedge has just been inserted

Reality Check

As most of these products come from China tracing supply is impossible. Also believing the stickers is also impossible as anyone who has dealt wiht China will tell you, whatever you buy comes with the stickers you request doesn't mean a thing........

Remember its only a few years ago a fake NEC was found out there.

We have so much bought on our behalf out there that the supply lines are blurred and safety concerns from the maker are non-existant

Apple Values

So they are not selling enough phones yet Apple charge a fortune for them. Its proof you cannot buck peoples expectations that electronics fall in price and rise in features. For the last 10 years Apple have refused this and ended up with billions in the bank. Unfortunately this means you are vulnerable to catchup from competitors. Samsung now make far more profits on their phone sales as they don't have to undercut Apple by much. Apple could drop prices, raise sales and drop Samsung profits too but that bursts the bubble of the goose that lays golden eggs.

So unless they come up with something groundbreaking soon, the stock price has to fall much further. So much for the guys pushing it to $1000 a share
