Well, isn't it most peculiar that sudden <insert car related function here> or IKEA shelves falling over or people scorching their fingers on coffee-cups or microwaves setting houses ablaze only ever seem to happen in the U.S.?

I am more than relieved the UK is exiting from the EU.
The desire to pre-empt everything with surveillance cameras, spying on citizens and now apparently giving police the powers of judge, jury and executioner - throwing overboard "innocent until proven guilty" - shows where this nation is sadly headed.
What's next? Pre-emptively imprisoning or hanging citizens? Maybe first pre-emptively "tickling" citizens for a wee bit at the police station's cellar, right? And then "accidentally shooting them" or "forgetting where they were imprisoned", just like it was done behind the iron curtain?
Is the UK, onece admired warrantor of democracy, attempting to overtake Orbán, Putin & Erdogan to win the pseudo-democracy gold medal at the next UN general assembly?
These are frightening developments.

Basically, the idea of the "sharing" economy is to break up unified hives of workers into an atomised powerless mass, where single worker bees will forever out-compete each other, driving prices down, while the company reduces costs and responsibilities to a minimum for the benefit of VCs, mezzanine financiers, lawyers, lobbyists and later shareholders.

Absolutely agree. Sanitised white young IT males very often don't get their priorities right at all. Heck, there are huge problems regarding health and wealth even in old Europe. IT and big data a la Zuckerberg or Schmidt is no panacea. Zuckerberg and Schmidt should put their money where their mouth is, and, like Bill Gates, donate and fund what's really important, rather than just dreaming up schemes to collect yet more data to perfect their corporate databases, schemes scantily clad as "aid".
