What? Apple products need management?! Cupertino intros device management for SMBs

Good idea, I'd like that too.

Glad for the support

I am near the end of my career and feel that we have things running just right. I want to be in a position to hand over a business that ticks along nicely. The idiots at Nominet are an abomination in an industry filled with generally good people and cause endless frustrations. It wasn't always like this, it used to good. Our company uses 20i and for good reason. We have tried others, many others, and just wished that everyone played as nicely as 20i.

Clearly, reading The Register and following the work of PublicBenefitUK, we can see that there is still some good left in the world. I wish all those supporting Public Benefit the very best.

Forget Adobe, use Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher

I have long since pulled out all my hair dealing with Adobe. The frustration of paying a ransom every year and then having all that wiped out by the change to a subscription was just too much. I had a conversation with Adobe following our services suddenly becoming "unregistered". When asked where we might have bought this obviously hooky software, I replied "Oh, at adobe.com, yes in your shop". At that point, we were paying in excess of £1,000 per suite. Good riddance.

We now use Serif's Affinity products and have done from the day they were released. A fraction of the cost, nicer to use, and going on my first real need for support just last week, excellent support too.

Now I just need to find a solution for my backup and my 'Lifetime licensed' Teamviewer. (32 bit)!

..and the award for best headline 2019 goes to ...

The Reg headline writers are the best. Well done for keeping up this noble art and for raising a good deal more than a smile as I return to my desk after leave. This has to be one of the best. Thank you.

Snowflakes wanted

With adverts like 'snowflakes wanted' who can blame potential recruits from wanting to join. The RAF and Navy have far more appealing advertising output.

And if anyone can get in within 3 months of applying, I'll give them their first promotion! 12 months wait for a 17 year old is a lifetime and that is how long it generally takes. There needs to be a far better solution.

Double, Triple, Quadruple - How much can you squeeze from your customers.

Having been a LMI customer until early this year, we had to find an alternative as the price doubled year on year. They priced themselves out of the market and would just ignore attempts to contact them. A sad day for Lastpass.

Unwanted download

When this broke, I already had the email from Adobe and decided to do a quick PW change and check the details. Having been through a process of updating PWs the week before and renewing many, I was confident that we had done what would could - very little in my control, thanks Adobe.

On signing in to my Adobe account, a download diaglogue box opened up. I cancelled and backed out immediately. I didn't note the name of the file other than it being something like templatefile but with an exe extension. Nothing was downloaded - close shave.

I checked again today and didn't get this and so assume Adobe has cleaned this up. Anyone else had similar?

Unhappy

That's a no from me!

This is the last straw for me. We are a small company with 4 x CS 6 licences. We're not exactly power users, but do have daily use of our CS software. We've taken a look at this and can't justify paying for ever more on each machine. We will either go down to one licence of move away from Adobe completely. Yes, I've heard all the arguments about the alternatives, but I'm pretty sure I can talk to my neighbours sub out if necessary if we dump Adobe completely. For the time being, our CS6 will last us for a good couple of years and we’ll see what alternatives there are then.

I guess there are a lot of companies in our position and this move is not going to make us pay more to Adobe; I really hate companies that treat everyone outside the US differently and expects them to pay more for the same product. This uncompetitive pricing should be made illegal.

So Adobe, you thought you could take me for more of my hard earned. Sorry, no more.
