Worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable and royalty-free: Amazon's Alexa NHS contract released

aelking

This article is scaremongering a bjt

The data being sold by the NHS is its info on the NHS direct website, which is basically a symptom wizard and pages to look up what to do in an illness. Not patient records.

The issue with this then being on Alexa is what are Amazon going to do with the data for a person after using the Alexa Symton wizard.

Re: I'm (not) sorry

I don't know if you are being purposely antagonistic or bot, so appologies this isnt meant to be rude, I would just like some clarification on the steps that are occuring.

1. Someone asks for your number

2. You give it to them

2a. Facebook takes it from them

3. You take their number

4. If they don't have facebook installed then you whitelist else blacklist

5. They call you

5a. Facebook takes you number

6. You answer based upon their response to having facebook installed

I hope I have the steps correct.

Please le me know if I am wrong.

HMRC research finds 'resistance' to proposals to shift contractor tax compliance burden

aelking

Re: Ethical tax compliance

But one thing you don't mention is that there is a much greater risk being a contractor, with unpaid holidays and sick leave.

So whilst you may be doing the 'moral' thing of paying more tax you are doing yourself a disservice by increasing your own risk level.

Plus, the a contractor will pay around the same amount of tax (maybe more) than a permanent employee, just with the final take home factoring in risk.

Re: Confusing waste of money

Just so you know there weren't any online systems for IVR before this from end, because the whole process changed from a house based system.

And yes, while it may only ask a few questions on the front end for normal people, for special voters e.g. overseas and armed forces there are alot more questions.

And verification is then done via the DWP, which it does automatically using this system, and only if there is an issue with the application will the ERO contact you to get more information.

Re: Some 8.1 Apps have started misbehaving

I just wanted to let you know that I have the barclays app, which is very good, and it allows transfers and payments for me.

An i'm running windows 10 on my 950, and my advice is to wait for the next major update, whilst the current releases are better alot of the issues are solved in the next set of updates, currently in the insider rings.

Re: the geeks shall inherit the earth

Apple are barely a footnote in businesses, not counting BYOD (where has that gone BTW?), and geeks have never 'favoured' Apple devices, yes at one point Apple were the only Major PC player, but then that was soon eroded Microsoft.

between vm and sky

Don't forget that he will be talking about stimulation between VM and sky, if they can suddenly offer a fast mobile network than this gives them another arrow in the quiver.

In regards to MVNOs than this is going to hamper their profits as there is less negotiating room and less options for them to move to if the prices become too high for the shareholders.

Not just a service pack

But it wasn't just a service pack, it was a minor kernel version increase, 6.2 to 6.3, which makes it a different OS. Service packs were a Build Number increase.

8.1 was release as 8.1 purely for marketing purposes, to try and control the perception of 8, it might as well have been called 9.

Re: Why change the system?

They want to be able to send more information between officers, for example, someone gets stabbed on the highstreet, this is caught by CCTV, it would save a lot of confusion, time and money if a picture of the perp could be sent directly to all officers devices quickly and reliably.

The reason for 4G over 3G is that 4G will (may) have multiple layers of priority for different traffic, e.g. a stabbing would take priority over someone with a missing cat.

Lost phone? Google's got an app for that, coming this month

aelking

late to the party

If the article is to be believed, then this isn't something they are building into the OS but an app that people can download and install, whereas Blackberries, iOS and Windows Phone/Mobile have had at least remote wipe and lock for many years integrated into the OS as key features, for the enterprise user at least.
