Evidence based policy at its finest...

Microsoft's Windows 10 nagware goes FULL SCREEN in final push

Offline only -Is there a definitive answer?

Assuming Windows10 is activated correctly at installation, is there a time limit to running it offline? Must it connect to the internet after any given period of time for any reason e.g. Windows Genuine Advantage "just checking" the OS is still legit ?

Microsoft still think they can ride this out...

All this anguish being expressed on the web is okay. Microsoft's own fear and loathing is being reflected back, but it will be absorbed, it was expected. "It'll run out of steam, there is no alternative..."

Adblock Plus blocked from attending ad industry talkfest

Dr U Mour

Re: Adblock's next step?

Consumers do pay for all that content. Advert subsidies actually cost consumers more - they just move the payment. They also frequently hinder access and often dictate terms and conditions on content.

Re: Why this will not hurt M$.

Okay, Matt, I'll bite this time. Yes using your posited world view this will have little impact. However your posited world view maintains its dominance, as any other, by consent. Every episode like this diminishes that consent. Oh and stating the obviousness of how little others matter in you glorification of your dominance helps too...Thank you.

Re: Obviously still sore...

The cri de cour of the naive " we are doing evil to do good" - doing evil IS doing evil, simples

New tricks and methods established and used to sustain a regressive and aggresive regime will be instrumental in its demise.

The greater the enforcement of "purity", the greater the dysfuntion.

For the record I am a reader and NOT an owner of The Register. I am encouraged to pass comment. When there appears to be a cack handed coordinated attempt to play the man and not the ball , a la Mr. Snowden, in this case, I chipped in...obviously some are still very sore indeed...

Dr U Mour

Obviously still sore...

Interesting that The Register comments have become a target for pro nsa types.... It is all too obvious chaps...do piss off and play elsewhere...

Windows 8.1 Update: Throws desktop drones a bone but still as TOUCHY as ever

Dr U Mour

Re: Snared on a thin thread...

Thanks for the useful info and link...

As it is a compulsory upgrade, will the 8.1 iso available via Microsoft Store include it by default pretty soon?

If so could you download the 8.1 iso from the store, use a generic 8.1 key to install it and then use an original key to authenticate? Updating numerous pc's at a fraction of the bandwidth...

Dr U Mour

Snared on a thin thread...

As a Win8.0 hold out I take it this means

1) downloading it again for each and every pc

2) no way of making straight to 8.1.1 installation media

cos I've bugger all else to do with my restricted bandwidth

PS and what about nfs support...
