Assuming Windows10 is activated correctly at installation, is there a time limit to running it offline? Must it connect to the internet after any given period of time for any reason e.g. Windows Genuine Advantage "just checking" the OS is still legit ?
Okay, Matt, I'll bite this time. Yes using your posited world view this will have little impact. However your posited world view maintains its dominance, as any other, by consent. The cri de cour of the naive " we are doing evil to do good" - doing evil IS doing evil, simples
New tricks and methods established and used to sustain a regressive and aggresive regime will be instrumental in its demise.

Either they really do not have the "slightest interest in examining their emails" or "they do not do so"...

Poor and expensive patching of a broke system, however well meaning and rigorously applied keep the broken system going. Internet access should be subject to Universal Service Provision and the industry should be obliged to provide a similar basic access for all before concentrating on the best possible service for a few.
Before we get flooded with "I've nothing to hide/doesnt affect me" posts -What about your independently minded MP or other Union/Professional representative? think what pressure might be brought to bear on them from this surveillance. What about Researchers/ Opinion leaders. There are many people that we rely on that could be neutralised by this surveillance....
