UK's new Snoopers' Charter just passed an encryption backdoor law by the backdoor

SnakeChisler

What is the point in this complete waste of resources

Oh look I've bought a VPN router and subscribed to a service

And that's what all the crims and terrorists will do if they didn't do it already + now use voip service through a tunnel.

Me and millions of others do not want the government pawing through my life 24/7 so whats next ban VPN's

FBI Director wants 'adult conversation' about backdooring encryption

Backdoor / Frontdoor for 1?

Lets start at the 1st hurdle Only the good guys get the key?

As far as I can see we've stopped at this point, no matter how good Comey thinks he's been I would bet Santa disagrees.

So we have only those perceived by the state (any state) to be worthy of getting the key?

Given the fact that any key will open up our digital life which includes Banking, Finance etc.. what he's proposing we have a conversation about you have to be virtually brain dead to think it was a good idea or have no online presence at all.

GM crops are good for you and the planet, reckon boffins

Re: Why all the negativity to GM foods?

GM crops are solely controlled by big firms who's main focus is profit, all GM products are tied up with licences due to patents, once your on the GM gravy train then you can't get off as you need the appropriate chemicals supplied by the said firm.

Like anything else the pests become resistant meanwhile you've polluted your genetic stock and are now joined by the hip to your GM supplier who gives you the latest pest resistant strain which which costs more.

Your also not allowed to use the seed you produce to replant due to patent restrictions

SnakeChisler

What is done cannot be undone

The case for GM is a good one unfortunately a lot of it is driven by US big bucks so do you believe a study that is promoted and paid for by Monsanto or do you look over the fence and see how Roundup Ready has polluted the gene stock over in the US and lead to round up hardy strains of pests so the farmer sprays more pesticide (which Monsanto makes) and also no one can use any of the seed follow on seed without a licence because of well patents held by Monsanto

Here's the rub I just don't trust a large corporation whose sole motive in this world is profit and who continuously try and bulldoze legislation through both the front and the back door to get us to take this stuff (latest effort is in TTIP trade agreement, the one where we sell our European soul to corporate America for a handfull of Beans)

Words to put dread in a sysadmin's heart: 'We are moving our cloud from Windows to Linux'

Windows upgrades

Having moved from windows NT4 to our current platform of 2012 and also having experience of UNIX & Linux its not just simply choose the devil you know.

Upgrading to the latest versions of windows server can be harder than switching to LINUX also the hardware costs just mount up.

In a modern setup running mail servers and web servers is far easier on Linux/Unix boxes,

If you've software developed on windows your generally stuck to a certain degree as your tied into .net but there's no reason why you can look at requirments on a case by case basis.

What's your game, Google? Giant collared by UK civil lib minister on 'right to be forgotten'

right to change history

Its a mess if Google don't take stuff down then there in contempt of court and liable to fines. What's taken down isn't google's problem if some crusty old judge thinks you can just wash away a couple of pages he's obviously as clueless as we all know him to be. Its like the DMCA stuff in the states if someone points the finger the easiest thing to do is yank it

Supreme Court nixes idea of 'indirect' patent infringement

SnakeChisler

Re: Not so sure

I really don't know what your point is here what we had was a sham methods patent that they were using to shake down a company.

Why would anyone care if they patent 1+2 & 1+2+3 most of it would get burnt with prior art and a lot of the rest unpicked with bleedin obvious. A lot of this is knocking other peoples ideas and cobbling them together and trying to claim its original or even worse computerizing know functionality and claiming its now on a computer its an invention.

The US system is broken coz there is too much money floating around to make sure it stays as an extortion racket rather than actually patenting real useful ideas. Phone's are a prime example upward of 10,000+ patents in 1 device but everyone wants 5% of the retail for each patent that goes to court instead of say Phone cost 100$ so every patent is worth 100 - 50 / 10,000

British trolls to face 'tougher penalties' over online abuse

SnakeChisler

I know what a Troll is as do those who frequent message boards and you just ignore it, the one's to get worried about are the Stalkers and Psycho's and there's ton's of laws around to lock them up already.

Why do politicians want to make up a new law for a perceived problem that doesn't exist and add another layer of complexity to an already overburdened legal system. You've already got Judges locking people up over basically a bar room rant that happens to make its way on twitter like the Robin Hood Airport incident. What common sense you cry!

iPhone slips in Europe as Windows Phone claims OVER 10% market share

Re: Lolz

You are joking aren't you?

MS / Nokia are selling a lot of units because they are very heavily subsidized, at some stage their going to have to compete and at that point we can take market share sales figures at face value.

The people I know who have windows phones use it for a bit of browsing and to read their e-mail and not much else there also of the older generation who have no interest in apps and very little brand loyalty.

Whats worse is in my sons age group (teens) and among his friends I have yet to see anyone with a Windows phone.

FOCUS

They can reduce the effects by tougher pollution rules very quickly the governments choose not to why?

Everyone constantly bangs on about carbon emissions instead, look pollution on the Norther Ice cap increases its ability to absorb light/heat by a huge proportion.

Were also trashing the sea using it as a dumping ground and scraping every bit of life out of it so can we PLEASE have a more balanced focus and at least tackle some of the things that will have a quicker effect.
