Re: A common occurrence
those "pass through" adapters are dumber than a hub.
i bet they sneak through any loopback protection

the common factor might be openretch, fibre became available in my area ( they installed a cabinet and apparently pulled out exchange only line into it)
sky tried and failed to get the fibre activated for 2 months during that i had to chase them constantly and they had no intention of escalating the issue.
got a new line pulled in with AAisp , they badger openretch on your behalf and keep you posted.
that said they havent managed to get it done yet either.
hence i think bad service = openretch
bad handling of delays = the isp
surprising how much difference it makes when you have a knowledgeable eager voice and lot of effort on the other side of the line, bonus is that you can hear and understand them ( i dont mind where their support is as long as i can understand it and they are knowledgeable and eager )
same here, i have also emailed openretch about it, they told me its not financially viable to intsall a streetcabinet, my speed is not bad but the 200m as the crow flies is actually an over 1km link....
very efficient. the copper they pull out would pay for the FTTP probably
that is true to some extent BUT that issue still wont be fixed by exiting the EU .
It will more like will be aggravated by completely outsourcing it as hiring people from abroad will be complicated/expensive/get shamed for it.
expect offices go empty.
doom we are all doomed
/ infected mushroom - U R so F***ed /
they do offer , at least for the BEThere customers they acquired through the O2 acquisition
( you can change you noise margin and switch of interleaving as well if you wish )
source : ex BE customer stuck around with sky as there is no Fibreoptic for the directly connected lines to the exchange ( even though the exchange was enabled for that since 2012.... )
Beer as we are closing to Beer'O'Clock
dont worry even residential areas are ignored, exchange is 200 meters away from the house but i have a direct line in ( about 900-1200 meters long... ) and BT refuses to put in a cabinet, although closer to the exchange ( about 50 meters ) they put in a new cabinet to poach virgin customers ( obviously i dont have virgin available )
[ live in London SE1 postcode area so no in the middle of nowhere... ]
it is just sheer greed from the part of BT
my kind sir you are the idiot and quite uninformed.
FTTC can provide 3-4 times download speed and about 10 times the upload compared to the best ADSL2+ Annex M ( 22Mbit down and 2Mbit up )
Also they would need to sort out the mess of the cabling the have around here
( as a side note : the crow flies straight but my cable goes like a drunkard which means the cable length is about 500m )
I live in central london ( zone 2 ) and local ( 100m distance from the house as the crow flies ) exchange is enabled and upgraded for a year or more now. I still cannot get a "fibre optic" connection as the line is directly connected to the exchange and financially not viable to install a streetside cabinet. ( they have put a new cabinet in right next to the exchange as that area has virgin media so they want to compete there, but my street doesnt so no juicy profit to be taken away )
tempted to start digging and putting down my own cable to the exchange, then ring the so they only need to connect it
so talk about milking the system and monopoly
Thank you for your enquiry about fibre broadband, as you know you are connected directly to the exchange and not via a telephony cabinet located in the street, this is referred to as an E/O line.
Our deployment is based on the commercial criteria for each exchange and in turn, how broadband is delivered from the exchange. Unfortunately, as your line is fed directly from the exchange it fails to meet the commercial criteria. This is because the solution to deploy Fibre Broadband to lines connected this way would not provide a return on the investment based on the costs for the construction and on-going running costs.
We do not currently have any plans to upgrade E/O lines at this exchange, you can register your interest for upgrade via the following link http://www.openreachfibrebroadband.co.uk/expression-gen.aspx
Please note, the telephony network over which fibre broadband is bespoke, as such, all premise are served from dedicated distribution points which are connected via their own underground duct network either directly to the exchange or to telephony cabinets. There are no interconnections that can be utilised to give fibre broadband services between E/O lines and cabinets, therefore, I’m afraid we technically can’t move your service to a cabinet. In addition, it is not Openreach policy to rearrange the network to enable services where they are not currently available, which is what would occur if your service was moved.
However, although I cannot give any timescales, we are working on a solution to upgrade E/O lines, but for now we cannot move you to a cabinet.
If you have any further questions, please ensure you have read the FAQ's on our website, http://www.openreachfibrebroadband.co.uk/faq/ . If your question is answered within the FAQ section, we will not respond to your e-mail.
