If you think that's bad, Vodafone placed a microwave relay next to a Christmas tree farm and were shocked when the whole local service failed in November due to the fact that the trees grew.

Does the EU include Wales?

I have ZERO call coverage for 75% of my journey to and from work, and the same applies should I 'go for a drive'. If I have a crash I'm on my own; or will they also require actual coverage from mobile operators.

Re: Who'd be a banker before the hordes with hoards of flash cash in their accounts?

When it costs 5-10% to send a transfer overseas using Western Union, but a few pennies/cents to achieve the same thing using Bitcoin you can immediately see the real value, it exists in the opportunity cost of using another method.

I thought that was obvious.

MtGox claims to have a fix ready for Bitcoin withdrawal woes

Do some research. The flaw only affects exchanges that rely on a transaction id before that transaction has entered the Blockchain ledger. Use another identifier and you're unaffected.

Wanna use Bitcoin on your site? BitPay's open-source library wants to help

Stuart 16

Re: Exactly!

$280 is the price on the failing MtGOX site where no-one can withdraw any money making the transaction volume effectively zero. Any weighted average, the method used to calculate the volume of other commodities, will not include the Gox price so the price is actually $652 or £389

But that doesn't make for a cataclysmic headline so journalists ignore it.

Re: "must have" apps

In a word Instagram, it isn't a business app but it was one of the biggest gaps. There was a large number of third-party alternatives, but folks wanted the real McCoy. I don't think my food is that interesting but people are change averse and clutch at reasons to avoid change.

There aren't that many app gaps any more, and the size of the app store is no measure of quality. Three hundred Justin Beiber fan apps make for nothing but noise in any app store.

As far as business goes WP8 isn't in the running until VPN becomes possible, and that from one who really likes it.

NO! Radio broadcasters snub 'end of FM' DAB radio changeover

Stuart 16

I can't switch my car's radio for a DAB one, there simply isn't a DAB radio available to replace the factory fitted, integrated, analogue one. Why not just make stations broadcast on Google+, that will ensure that no-one listens.

Samsung vs Apple: which smartphone do Reg readers prefer?

Stuart 16

My Lumia 820 with WP8 fully implements the SMS Bluetooth protocol allowing my car to read SMS messages to me while I'm driving as well as having the option to dictate replies. A complete deal maker / breaker. This doesn't work at all with Android or iOS and until it does I won't be moving away from WP8.

Stuart 16

Re: +1

To expand a little further, I do not have money to throw at rubbish devices. It doesn't matter to me if the problems are caused by the software of the hardware; rubbish is still rubbish. So BOTH Huawai and Android have blown it in my book.

Stuart 16
Thumb Up

I owned a Huawei Ascend G300 for a short period, it was without a doubt the most miserable experience I have had with a phone. I switched to a Nokia Lumia with Windows Phone 8 and will not go back to Android.
