Australian Signals Directorate seeks offensive people

Pay not that bad

The pay isn't that far out off private sector remuneration for entry level positions.

The biggest issue for anyone thinking to take up these jobs would be having to move to, and then live in, Canberra. The pay rate doesn't come close to compensating for that.

A great role for someone fresh out of Uni with no roots who can move to The Bush Capital for a few years. Not so good for a person with experience in the industry and an established family in another capital.

Y U mad Bro?

"So if the telcos are really mad about their new role, they'll have to do the job themselves."

But they aren't mad about it. It's just another regulation to them. If you watch the parliamentary hearings or read the Hansard, they went out of their way to be neutral when asked questions about the schemes impacts. They had no commentary about the validity of the changes to the regulations at all.

Most likely a line item on a bill would cost them more again to implement, and hence the change wouldn't see the light of day.

Gregg Steinhafel's compensation on leaving Target will likely be 55 million plus. The Target 'hackers' generated only an estimated 53 million in stolen funds.

Yeh, I'm sure Gregg is crying into his breakfast Bellini and Condor egg omelet about his decision to under-fund his IT/Infosec team.

Yahoo! spam reporting fail

If you have ever tried to report spam from a compromised Yahoo! account, you know that they have no means to repoprt spam from their network. Their direct abuse address doesn't accept email anymore and suggests politely that you use their 'you beaut' html form.

Problem is that the form just goes round and round in circles. You never get to a point where you can enter the header or body. If you sign in to a Yahoo! account and pretend that the email come from outside their network, this is adifferent story.

My guess is that about 2 years ago Yahoo! got rid of all their abuse staff and now use some sort of automatic tool which seems to not be able to accept spam from their own network. Just guessin.
