ISPs set to install network-level smut filters despite Lib Dem opposition

AndrewCarlton

Tumblr, Blogger, Flickr, Imgur and Imageban

Chances are Tumblr, Blogger, Flickr, Imgur and Imagebam will be blocked by the new "mommy" filters, all 3 are known to contain lots of porn

(I should know :D)

the idea of ISP level filtering is aweful, let alone "on by default", if it's gonna be shoved down our throats it should be "off by default" and customers should be informed about their options

UK MPs tell Google: Get back here and bring your auditors with you

WTF?

WTF

"While tax evasion is illegal, tax avoidance is entirely legal" WTF

UK government should really change that, trying to get out of taxes at all should be illegal, regardless of whether you work for a UK based company or a company using the already mentioned "Irish double Dutch sandwich", if you have operations in the UK you should be liable for all relavent taxes!

Netflix plotting move to HTML5 video - but only if DRM works

AndrewCarlton
Thumb Up

Please let this happen

I don't care about the fact that Netflix offers content with DRM, £5.99 a month is great, what bugs me is silverlight , I dual boot Win8 and Linux Mint, netflix works great with WIn8 both metro and browser, Linux Mint requires a version of FIrefox running in Wine which has been specially compiled for silverlight, It's a pain in the neck, HTML5 will fix this :D

ps for Netflix UK users wishing to view Netflix US, have a look at firefox/chrome addon 'MediaHint' (google it)

Upgraded to W7 during public "beta" and never looked back, did the same for Win8, I love Win8

Persuaded the company I work for (500+ PC's) to upgrade everything to XP, almost finished with that, only 10 more PC's to go then it's by by XP you outdated bloated OS

Internet Explorer makes modest gains against Google Chrome

I like IE9

So I'm a bit strange but I actually like IE9, its clean and fast, the welcome to IE9 prompt is short and sweet.

Now IE10 (Metro version [I don't care what Microsoft call it!!]) can go burn in hell, the idea of "hiding" tabs and URL bar was obviously concieved by someone stoned/drunk, I use windows 8 and have FF21 and Chrome 26 installed, if Win8 came with a Metro version IE9 by default I don't think FF/Chrome would get a look in.

Obviously IE8 and lower were a steamy pile of c**p, although I think a good number of techies would agree with me on that one
