Easy way to teach FB a lession

there are 13 ROOT DNS servers, 9 in the USA... the collective countries need to just un-dns FaceBook so anything with Facebook in the URL gets a page that reads "Facebook is not accessible using normal DNS servers" or some other silly post.... even the basic 404 error.

Now if you used Facebook's DNS servers on your PC, phone, tablet etc.. you could get to them.

But this would pretty much cease all traffic to FB, no traffic, no ads being viewed, no ads being served up. The collective countries tell FB they have a choice, permanently stop all data harvesting for them and 3rd parties, stop blasting ads on their site or at least things like adblockers to work on their sites or we will keep FB offline this way until Tom from MySpace revives his old site and takes over as the social media giant.

Now the down side is everyone who lives on facebook will have to find another way but hey! its for the greater good

WannaCry reverse-engineer Marcus Hutchins hit with fresh charges

I applaud him for finding a way of activating the "kill switch" via registering the domain this thing was to phone home to and in essence it would not receive any instructions nor would any data fall into wrong hands.

But he had to tell the FBI and now they are jailing him.. and the perps that created it now know they can create something like it but before they release it to the wild they need to have the domain set up beforehand.

He should have kept quiet and let the creators try to figure out what was wrong.

FYI: There's a cop tool called GrayKey that force unlocks iPhones. Let's hope it doesn't fall into the wrong hands!

if the devices can be upgrade so when apple updates and patches things and new zero day exploits are found and can be added to the device then its a back and forth

Judge rules FBI can hack any time, any, place, anywhere

PirateKing

being one of these "Merkins" I have to say

Anyone remember that movie "Sneakers" ? "No More Secrets"

I feel this is an egregious violation of my rights since all we see on our TV's and hear on our radios is how to protect our identity and data... well now I can see why

I believe this law should be augmented to the following: the FBI cannot hack someone's PC/phone wiithout serving a warrant to the person who owns them.

In other words, no FISA warrants..

if a person has nothing to hide, then no biggie.. porn? legal porn should not concern the FBI (unless they need new material) browser history looking up various guns? harmless.

no different than buying a book on guns and doing the research that way

As for the IP ownership.. Um... I think IANA is who owns them.. companies and networks pay for a block but if the company goes tits up, the IP's can be recycled.. so TRUE ownership of the IP is IANA.. or at least the entity that assigned it to the end user.

DuckDuckGrow: Privacy search soars 600% after Snowden dumps

Duck Duck Duck Duck GOOSE!

So they only way they will make money is by allowing sites and companies to PAY for search relevance positions? IE they pay to make sure their page appears in your search even if it is not relevant. Sounds bias to me as some companies can pay MORE than smaller ones

Split decision: Asus Transformer Book T300 Chi convertible

PirateKing

My T300 Android which I have had for 3 years

I got the docking KB which adds battery life, a full sized USB and SD card reader/writer. The KB is not bluetoothed to the tablet. So if Asus redid it I think THAT was a mistake.

I have been VERY happy with mine.. 32 gigs of onboard storage, another 32 in the microSD (which with prices coming down on 64 gig microSD's I might up it and my phone)

Hey, YouTube lovers! How about you pay us, we start paying for STUFF? - Google

PirateKing

how would they figure who gets paid what?

would it be a set amount per view (or 100 views from different IP's - otherwise a botnet will jack up the hits) and who decides what ads appear on the video? Google now sends ads to the video's and around the page based on who is logged in and their history etc.. so now if a YouTuber gets a ton of hits and becomes a sensation ad companies want to put their ads on that person's page for views. What should be done is the ARTIST should be the one who decides what ads appears on their YouTube page and is fed to their viewers. Thus they get $$$ from the advertisers, and arrange it with Google/tube to place the ads on their page..

Re: My network...

To make such a statement means you have witness'ed it or are doing it.. that means you have access'ed the network some how. If you cannot prove it, then it did not happen.

False statements can and WILL get you in trouble

Apple patents Wi-Fi access point location lookup

Apple about to get their butt whooped

Gee, Google hired the guy named Marius Milner who wrote NetStumbler. A widely used wardriving APP that mapped out a LOT of access points all over. Check out www.wigle.net - this is the free database that has all the apps uploaded so you can see around your area.

Apple is just trying to patent something that has been out since 2003 and is public domain. Google has a BIG dog in this fight this time.

NSA using Firefox flaw to snoop on Tor users

PirateKing

a thought occurred about Snowden and all his info

granted I think the guy has done both good and damage.. but he seems to have collected a lot of information over time into one nice easy to grab folder and did so..... most government sites know who is looking at what and copying the data, even if it is to another secure folder on their network...

Yahoo! Japan drops UPS systems, crams batteries into servers

PirateKing

What this does mean is instead of large battery rooms etc, the onboard battery should cover the power event that triggers the generators... everyone knows that DataCenter space is a premium so if your main battery room can be reduced by 50% because each server has a small UPS built in that lasts say... 15 minutes then the battery room is only needed for switch gear and other things but it can be greatly reduced.

Just hope the batteries these servers are hot swappable and they have 2 inside just in case you have to swap a battery and the power goes out, there is 1 there to sustain it for a bit
