Eh? The 520 runs Windows Phone 8 and can and will run Windows Phone 8.1; mine is rocking the Developer Preview right now.

Makes you wonder just exactly what was the point announcing free Office 365 subs for TechNet subscribers if they were about to kill it anyway.

Awful decision, now I'll be looking at reskilling on technologies I can afford to stay relevant in as TechNet was my gateway drug to all things Microsoft.

Tap the photo you want, it'll expand to take up screen, then swipe charms menu in from the right hand side of the screen.

If you want to email select 'share' then 'mail'; if you want to print select 'devices' and then the printer you wish to print to.

Just my gut feeling but I suspect peoples choice of browser has little to do with the pop-up, 17 months of not functioning yet IE still losing ground strengthens this feeling, but rather the wider spread of browser usage is more likely down to better consumer awareness, impact of mobile devices and the perfectly understandable negative attitude towards IE.

Also doesn't using murder as an analogy for this seem a bit ott?

I do see the perspective of not getting away with a punishment, I just think the browser choice pop up is a bit clunky...

Maybe they should have compelled MS to have the major players browsers all pre-installed.

I totally agree, the browser choice is now just a nuisance, it served it's purpose at the time as did the hefty fine both of which made sense.

However the EU should now acknowledge the game has changed and the other players are on an even playing field with a prevailing wind behind them.

We've now entered a curious world where my grandparents know IE is bad and that they should install Chrome but they don't know why and Google programmaticly bitch slap slightly older versions of IE whenever you access Gmail even though until recently most Windows users couldn't get past 8.

Personally I'd quite like it if someone collected up all the toys and put them back in the cot and we all just get along.

Windows Phone 8 hasn't slowed Microsoft's mobile freefall

What will be will be

Having read the comments I find myself wondering why people get so animated and revel in the apparent difficulties of a given OS.

Many people like IOS, many people like Android, many people (yes relatively less according to the myriad of analysts keen to tell us - for a price/agenda) but nonetheless many people also like Windows Phone 8.

One's liking of an OS doesn't negatively impact nor imply foolishness of anothers fondness for a different OS.

Lets all just peace out and enjoy the current variety we have on offer and hope that we continue to enjoy such in the future.

Currently running Lumia800, ticks my boxes as I like the smaller form factor and visually find the OS compelling and my Dell Venue Pro (first gen Winpho7) got updated yesterday which was a nice surprise.

I've also run with an SII for a good while which I was thoroughly impressed with and my old iPhone still works great and is a good loaner when required and the new Blackberry OS has my attention, some nice ideas in there, although the Z10 does look awfully like... ;)

P.S - Eadon get some serotonin reuptake inhibitors. stat. I don't think Ballmer is reading these dude, relax. Have a pint.

Variety is the spice of life!

If it truly becomes a one horse race and for the sake of argument lets say - Samsung and their Android offering - then the options open to us as consumers will become the illusion of choice provided by a dozen variations on a theme and ultimately we will lose out.

Lets all celebrate the relative strengths of each OS/Device combination and the variety they bring rather than polarise on weird generalised perceptions that they don't deserve success because they plagiarise'd once, they don't deserve success because only wealthy hipsters buy them or they don't deserve success because in the 90's they were evil etc etc.

In short I hope there's room for Android, Blackberry, iOS, WindowsPhone, the varied selection of feature phones and welcome/hope for the phoenix like rise of Meego as Sailfish and whatever that can bring to our buffet of mobile devices.

Pint because I think we should all celebrate the choice we currently enjoy :)
