Hey mobile firms: About that Android thing... Did Google add a lockout clause?

@Loggie,

You mean like you can with Android?

Sony sucker-punches Xbox on price, specs, DRM-free gaming

Babbit55

Re: Well done Sony.

The Xbox one idea of digital sales limited resale ect could go 2 ways.

Positive:- we get a "Steam" type offering with lower cost games and great sales with some pro owned market style stuff on both our Physical and Digital titles, and lets face it will that be different on the Steam box when that comes out?

Negative:- we get gouged and have to pay £50+ for games we cannot resale.

If the forma happens it could be good for Microsoft and us gamers and lets face it who in general doesn't like steam? Or the Latter that could end badly for Microsoft

Re: Sonic Screwdriver

@Richard 31

My comment was to the sonic screwdriver comment. If you watch Dr Who you know that the sonic screwdriver cannot open a "Deadlocked" lock

Babbit55

Re: Sonic Screwdriver

This is why you should dead lock the car!

YES, Xbox One DOES need internet, DOES restrict game trading

Re: Used games

Almost my entire game collection is used, and CEX has managed to build a very successful chain of stores JUST selling used games, so I would say a good amount, even places like Asda and Tesco now sell 2nd hand games!

Babbit55

Re: @Hairy Spod

Also on Steam brand new titles come out for significantly less AND they have awesome sales. Will we see 75% reduction on games for this? No, they will still be £45+

So with this coming into play, how long until the Great British Firewall is setup? Does the automatic blocking of content not go against some European legislation or even human rights somewhere?

Re: Desktops will never disappear

Desktops will be around for a long time still, it is laptops that tablets will replace. The desktop will still be a main work device/ proper gaming device, with your "Lapblet being the portable consumption device.

Review: Sony Xperia SP

Babbit55

Most mid range Sim free phones would be that expensive, high end phones are more than double that price, for example the S4 is almost £600!

on a contract you could get that for free on some of the lower tariffs.

Re: Hybrids

I was playing with the Asus w510, seems like a nice piece of kit, maybe on the small side at 10.1in though I am not sure I would want much larger for what is really designed to be a portable device

Babbit55

Hybrids

You have to wonder what these hybrid devices count as. I am actually quite keen on something like a Asus Vivopad smart though it would need significantly more HDD space to replace my work machine.

Review: Disgo 8400G 7.9in Android tablet

Babbit55

I have had a cheap unbranded Tablet before for sub £150, it was plagued with issues. Half the time you couldn't get wireless, it crashed randomly and the advertised 8 gig ended up being 4! It got returned for a full refund and I got a Nexus 7 instead, my personally experience would go with the old you get what you pay for.

Re: Everyone keeps forgetting...

Just because people choose not to buy apple products does not make then "Jealous poor" I have a iPhone as a work phone and I got my wife a iPhone too, I personally hate the thing, it is great for things like browsing and apps and stuff, it is awful at 2 key thing i use it for though. Making phone calls (Call failed pisses me off especially when i have an almost full signal!!!) and sending text messages. (I have dyslexia so rely on auto correct that is woefully inaccurate)

Re: Everyone keeps forgetting...

Apple is overpriced and makes its money by ripping off its consumer base?

Babbit55

Re: 20% already own a tablet...

I actually think we will see a growth of tablets with a drop of laptop sales, desktops will always keep there place for serious work like high end graphics and gaming, the tablet with attachable keyboard will soon make the laptop a thing of the past.

Babbit55

Re: cost

Being in IT Sales I find having a 7in tablet loads better than lugging my 17in HP brick of a laptop around with me for meetings, Tablets are very handy for more than just casual games and reading books.

Babbit55

Re: @Steve

I would have to disagree, the android ecosystem is now very well integrated. When I picked up my Nexus 7 i just logged into my google account, it setup my contacts from my phone and setup all my apps, it even setup my wireless from all taken from my HTC Desire C, I can even go to the google play website and download apps to my devices easily, not sure what more integration you may need?

Babbit55

Re: Hang On

Thing is, do you REALLY want more options while setting up? I dislike the browser choice thing for IE too, if I want Chrome, I download it. I don't want to spend ages choosing all my default apps when I buy a phone, I just download the ones I want and disable the ones I don't. Simples!

Actually all for being part of the EU, no idea where I am going to vote though really doubt it would be UKIP though. To be honest all the major political parties at the moment are unappealing!

Babbit55

Re: To fix the problem

That is because it is only part of a solution, that's the bit about fixing benefits and the benefit culture, I also think we need to spend more on growth and industry like this high speed railway, also the minimum wage needs raising too to encourage people to get into work.

You don't cut to grow, money in for money out, we have a real problem with people thinking it is fine to live on benefits and to pop out kids for money. There is actually someone with 11 kids and lives on benefits and has for the past 7 years getting over £600 a week! I am in a well paid sales job and don't get that kind of money!

Babbit55
Holmes

To fix the problem

We need to sort out benefits! Cap child benefit at 2 kids and just give job seekers food stamps, and if someone is found the be defrauding the benefits office disallow them from ever claiming again. Also make it a requirement to actually have worked in the UK for a period of time before allowing someone to claim!

What about if I googled online auctions? ebay aren't top then so in this case a paid ad may actually be beneficial!
