Stop replying! pleads NetApp customer stuck in reply-allpocalypse

Marc 13
FAIL

This NetApp one presumable contains IT types, who should know better than reply all, especially once the tsunami started!

We had a variation in our office the other week, a couple of hundred tenants got spammed by a gritting contractor who'd left a distribution list able to be replied to from outside the organisation so when a few recipients started replying with unsubscribe/remove etc...

Add it to the tab: ICO fines another spammer as unpaid bills mount

How is this still a thing?

Liquidating the company shouldn't matter... there's already a process to take the proceeds of crime from criminals.

Possible reprieve for the venerable A-10 Warthog

Marc 13

They will test its comparative-ness... but it depends who designs the tests :-(

One of my fav aircraft...

But back to reality, its seems its a very cost effective one too:

http://nation.time.com/2013/04/02/costly-flight-hours/

$17K per hour vs £70K for the combat ready F22... I suspect the F35 will be in this ball park too once its deployed. Even if it reaches the deployment size of the F-16 ($22K per hour), it will still be more per hour...

Keeping it on staff is money well saved!

Is this the most puzzling DEF CON attendee badge yet on record?

Black Helicopters

1057 the plot.

Quote: " One side features the number "13782 1A 1057-271828" "

That ALSO contains the numbers 1057 or LOST as you point out further down...

Waiting for the black helicopters!

NERDGASM as Apple announces 'special event'

Marc 13

Special event? I'll set my watch!

You know, the watch that I already own, thats already made of Gold/Steel/Titanium etc, the one that already tells me what date and time it is... the one thats made by a suitably subtle manufacturer that only certain types will recognise and appreciate, the one thats thinner than a £1 coin yet doesn't need a battery...

yawn.

Received surprise new Redmond licenses? You might be pwned

Re: IT professional

"I don't understand how an IT professional can fall for a such a trick. (Note the word professional)."

Because there's a lot of IT run by the guy (or gal) in the office who "knows about computers". They then get another job "in IT" because they "ran" the last company's IT.

He/she is now an IT Professional. Q.E.D.

EE squashes Orange UK: France Telecom's been 'destroying it for years'

Marc 13

Orange was great... 'till the French arrived

I had an Orange phone soon after they launched, it was cheaper p/min than the BT payphone in halls (once you'd bought the handset, but Radio Rentals (remember them!?!) did a nice deal on that) and it was almost half the price p/min of Voda and Cellnet. It was great 'till the French bough them, out went the great customer service, out went the free this, free that, in came the price gouge for everything and duff billing - I paid a bill over the counter and they (to this day) never applied it to my account!

I'm now on Three who has much the same ethos of the early Orange (Hutchinson's hand?) and soon will have O2's network to play with ... O2 the only network I have never been on.

Re: I hope it is heat tolerant

No, my car's radios etc do not fail with heat. But we get 3 laptops a week over the counter with nVidia GPUs that have baked themselves loose!

BT to gobble EE for £12.5bn – BTEE phone home

Marc 13
WTF?

BT - the new largest player in 3 markets

So BT will be:

34% of Fixed line Internet (next biggest: Virgin 205)

37+% of Fixed line telecoms (Plus EE's share) (next largest: Virgin 12%)

33% of Mobile comms (EE's share) (Next largest VF/O2 @ 26% each)

So BT is now dominant in all three markets... and we know how well they play with others when in dominance!

Budget for a server why not go buget pc...

I'm a recycler/refubisher.

MS does W7 and Office 2007 licences charities etc for $6 USD each via its Citizenship licenses.

We just bought some ex corporate Lenovo X61 laptops (Core 2, 2Gb, 80Gb HDD) for £20 each

So for £1000 plus labour, you could have a W7/Office equipped core 2 duo for each user. WAY cheaper than a go faster Server 2012 piece of tin!

Contact your local MS Registered refurbisher....
