Doxxing nixed by Hong Kong courts, again

Maybe El Reg want to add that the previous Chief Executive (top puppet in charge of Hong Kong) has openly called for the names and details of teachers who attended protests and even using the protests as teaching material in schools.

They are also sent home but with guards and CCTV to keep their activities in check.

Re: Testing

Well, the Hong Kong government has pretty much stopped all non Hong Kong residents from coming to the country, even if it's for transfer to another flight.

Visitors to Hong Kong had dropped massively so quarantining those who are flying in isn't too much of a problem.

Re: My takaway from this..

To be honest, the games arcade in Hong Kong are mainly places for triads and other unsavoury people to hang out for the past 2 decades or so. It's not saying that there aren't legit arcades but they are a minority.

More popular places like Jumpin Gym U.S.A. where simple style arcades which give out rewards in the form of tickets to swap for prizes, alongside token based pachinko style games which are very popular with OAPS.

I don't know, but a study commissioned by the class action law firm with such a small sample size and with only 1 test per subject kinda tells me that this is as biased as all those "Expert Witness" testimonies you see in other lawsuits.

But seriously though, is there any chance that this study will not get laughed out of the court?

Also, isn't it also obvious that you can't accept the true heart of the gadgets since there are so many thing that can affect the reading.

It's almost like suing to make a quick buck. /s

Ah yes, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge.

Don't expect to be travelling on that anytime soon. It's start date has been pushed back a year and it definitely won't be the last of the delays.

Re: "...spent the next week languishing in the Excelsior Hotel..."

Unfortunately Hong Kong is an altogether different place compared to the 80's, 90's and even the 00's.

If you been reading the news in the past few years, you'll have seen HK turn from a tourist location for different countries to a tourist location catering only for Mainland (China) tourists.

There has been so many setbacks since the handover that it's almost an entirely different place. The streets are filled with "licensed" pharmacies and expensive branded shops. And each and every one of them are filled by Chinese tourists.

And that's not mentioning the political climate, you are now either Pro China or Anti China. There is apparently no middle ground anymore. Freedom of Press has been eroded, nearly everything decision that the government makes is not for the HK people but for the benefit of China.

You can't even post messages on-line about HK Independence lest you want the Police to come knocking at your door.

It's a sad fact, but Hong Kong is not what it once was. It's still a good place to visit but be prepared to see a lot of Mainland tourists with next to no manners wherever you are.

Just like to point out that the guy who ran Hong Wrong now has an independent English Hong Kong news website at https://www.hongkongfp.com.

Their stance is quite Anti-China but they try to keep opinions away from the news. You also find several reporters that covered Occupy Mongkok have joined it as well.

What's funny is that even Michael Chugani has guest posts on the website.

Apple CEO: We've hoovered up your cash faster than ever before

Let's see how Apple sold so many iPhones so quickly this year.

1. First time included China as a day 1 release.

2. Increase the registration period by a week.

3. Claim (as they do EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR.) that there is not enough stock in the first few weeks.

= New record for iPhone sold on day 1.

Honestly, I'm surprised that the record wasn't broken by a higher margin, being day 1 release in China as well.

Interestingly, over in Hong Kong, you used to be able to sell your new iPhone for a nice profit practically as soon as you left the Apple Store. 3 Years ago, I got lucky with day 1 Hong Kong release and made around 400quid on 2 phones. There's stories of people only making 100quid if they are lucky this time round.

Silicon Valley sides with Samsung in anti-Apple patent war

Re: Apple vs Samsung

It's not a manual.

It's a Competitive Analysis Report between the 2 phones. Every single company does it for their competitors products. You can bet that Samsung have reports for other phones during that time.

And you can bet your arse that Apple have reports for their competitors phones. It's part of the process to figure out what functions and ideas you can bring to your next iteration of you product.

Are you that stupid to think that Samsung only produced a "manual" for the iPhone and the iPhone alone??

Stephen Hawking biopic: Big on romance, not so much with the science?

Re: Mr Hawking – Over-rated - Big Bang Mythology

So what do you believe then? That the universe is create by some supreme being only a few thousands of years ago?

At least Stephen Hawking had the curiosity to try to figure it out rather than accept what he's been told.

Also, because the universe is so massive and so old, you can't prove what happened, only theorize. And a lot of what Hawking theorized is as close as to what OTHER scientist believe.

You know, that's why they are called THEORETICAL PHYSICISTS. Our science isn't advanced enough (if ever) to test these theories.

What more do you want? The truth? Considering the comments you've made, you can't handle the truth. I know I don't understand the majority of his work, but at least you got to admire him for trying, and being diagnosed with motor neurone disease at 21, initially given a life expectancy of 2 years and still alive 52 FUCKING years later. Clearly someone/body/thing wanted him to carry on living.

I, for one, admire him and want him to continue to give us his views on what was and what might be.

Apple, HTC kiss and make up

Re: @ge - Big gotcha

Erm, there's been no sudden switch. HTC started out as a Windows Mobile phone maker and have brought out phones in nearly all Windows handheld generations. Just because they brought out 2 Windows 8 phones (HTC 8S & 8X) doesn't mean they are switching to Windows. Even Samsung joined in the Windows 8 mobile "bandwagon" with the Samsung Activ S phone.

All it means is that they feel Windows 8 to be a viable market to sell some phones, no sudden switching.
