I can't fault them, to be honest. The strap on my Fitbit Charge came loose after 11 months and they replaced the watch without any fuss (I was expecting them to refuse, so I was pleasantly surprised). The Charge 2 has proper metal clips, so hopefully it's a lot more robust.

I assume you prefer pay walls to adverts? And big media conglomerates to small independent publishers? It's advertising that's paying for them sites, not unicorns and pixie dust.

It dependes - the publisher might be buying what they think is legitimate traffic for their site, but is in fact fraudulent. (If you're wondering how you can 'buy' traffic for your site, that's what companies like Outbrain are doing when they put lists of links on publisher pages). That's the only case in which I think the publisher might be considered an innocent victim.

If I recall correctly, newspaper copy is written to be trimmed. If another story needs more column inches, it's trivial to remove paragraphs from the end of the story without substantially changing the meaning (the story loses detail and colour instead). I don't know if the same writing style is applied to online copy, but it doesn't sound completely implausible.
