I continue to be surprised that the only "big name" manufacturer targeting education with their tablets is one that that has a model whereby individuals are silo'd - you get one instance of your data on each of their devices. Expecting you to buy a pad, a phone and a computer.

Education needs multiple profiles to be available on one device, the opposite of Apple...

The fact that Microsoft have not twigged to this yet boggles my brain...

The key here Bill, is to regulate the f***ing people SELLING it, not the currencies that are in circulation. If BAE and the like did not operate so nefariously with who they are willing to sell to, it would cut down an awful lot of issues, immediately.

I was always amazed that a decent work device was not released, and allowed Apple to keep that role. Apple phones are not really designed for work based use, especially with the majority being used in a MS windows Domain based environment. It is a device that sys-admins struggle to manage correctly - although MDM is changing that now.

If Nokia had managed to provide a device that is domain aware, and managed via Group policy (with the help of Microsoft) and the historic reputation of how solid their hardware is. Coupled with the lack of data slurping, I could see Nokia carving a niche out for themselves that the others just cannot touch.

Alas, it didn't go that way, I am still waiting for a device to fill that role and make my job a lot easier, especially as GDPR looms...

We recently had a "creative spark" decide to source, order and even attempted to install a wireless printer....

despite not involving the IT dept up until he had problems, we dutifully obliged in attending the chaps desk to see how we could help...

we were met with a tirade of angry expletives describing how rubbish the printer was and that IT need to get this working NOW as there were lots of important creative things that needed to be created by this creative man, who was being dragged down by un-necessary tech problems..

we saw the problem instantly, it was not plugged in to any power source, or indeed a network/USB connection to receive any printing data.

our creative "dude"'s reply "well why should it need any cables, it is meant to be wireless!?"
