Stop

Oh my god...

So let me get this right, people are willing to hand over cash, (well sometimes parents unknowingly have to hand it over I gather), to buy virtual furniture in a virtual hotel room??

What do they do with it?

Mayhap i am too old for all of this but I fail to see how even children could get excited by this?

Oh and yes i agree that the police should be focusing more of their time on real crime that happens in real life...

@Andy Bright

hear, hear old man! I am still quite shocked that any global company that has made millions because it originated in a democratic society could overturn it's principles so quickly and easily and provide info that leads to 2 people losing their basic human rights.

I am almost physically sick by Yahoo's actions.

16,000 namesakes cry foul over US terror watch list

Shaun Vizer

Common sense?

Ok so the yanks have the right to defend their borders just like any other country and whilst I don't agree with all their measures doesn't mean I don't think some of them are quite valid.

The only issue I have with anything implemented is when it has been implemented badly, or worse not understood by the people enforcing the measures, how on this god's green earth do they believe a child under 12 got on to a terrorist suspect list.

Obviously anyone with a smidgen of common sense could see that it was a duplicate, this I feel is the real issue with these measures putting brain dead imbeciles in charge of running them.

I hate having to go to the US these days, before 9/11 it was a pain in the ass now it is downright dangerous and I thank the stars that I am a white Caucasian going in to the states because I fear for anyone that has a tan or looks in any way from the middle east or just plain foreign.

Face facts..

iTunes is popular and legal downloads of music could far outweigh illegal downloads if only record companies wanted them to.

It is the general trend that society will prefer to be seen as doing something legal unless there is a easier way of doing something.

Make it easy for consumers to do something and lo & behold they will follow suit, i just don't understand why record companies don't see this??

Fortunately...

most politicians actually sound this stupid during debates, listening to "question time" when a respective government is in session reminds me of 12yr old's fighting at the local playground..

It's a wonder that we manage to have a functioning country at all although i do believe that this is more due to the fact that a lot of the laws we have today were formed when men were men and politicians were not an analogy for time-wasters and money guzzler as they are today...

Record industry pushes ISPs to cut off file sharers

Shaun Vizer
Flame

@Conway

There are in fact some very legitimate uses of P2P filesharing, i know that Blizzard employ this method for updating fairly popular games such as WoW or World of Warcraft and i do not doubt there are others.

I don't and have never downloaded music illegally nor would I condone it but a knee jerk reaction like the one being proposed is I would say the wrong approach.

I recommend as some others have here that RIAA and other companies who are being "hurt" by illegal downloading plough their money into better download solutions, look at iTunes and how popular it is.

It's not a hard decision to make and will still allow the music mega-giants to continue to keep their profits up, same for movies and TV shows. I mean come on the popularity of the downloading these is not down to the fact it is illegal it's because it is providing the consumer with what they want.

Frankly there is a market to be taken advantage of and the idjits like this who "sabre rattle" as opposed to putting effort into it deserve what they get..

Iran & Nukes..

How do you know for certain Iran does not have nuke capabilities, what because they said so?

NK & Iran have made overt threats in the last few years and whilst i do enjoy a bit of US bashing now and again the people in those countries in question have been brainwashed to hate not just the yanks but us "westerners" as well.

Frankly whilst I would never condone providing carte blanche for our leaders to do what they want, I don't believe them putting preventive and first strike capabilities in play is a bad thing in case someone wants to come along and ruin my Starbuck drinking, prêt eating life :)

Orange's Apple deal to bear unlocked iPhones

Shaun Vizer
Thumb Up

Unlocked Phones

Whilst I can appreciate that Apple like any other company are essentially money making machines and that to release unlocked phones may seem to be disadvantegous for a company I really do believe they like many other companys only have a short term view and could make more money if they took a more long term view

I would put forward a suggestion that the iPod was not just successful because of it's physical design but because it hit at the time that music was being downloaded for free on the net in large quantities. Which then allowed you to play all those mp3's on a great device.

The same principle could be said for phones, it has been a long while since a great mobile has come along and taken the populace by suprise, i really think the iPhone could have been that but locking into providors is such a misaligned view that frankly it hobbles a companies ability to dominate a market.

And I quote: "(high school seniors are mostly only 17, making them children still)"

Umm yes technically, (and we all know how much the yanks like their technicalities), they are under the age of 18 but to think that none of them have seen breasts IRL would be ludicrous to the extreme.

Why would you have the police involved in something so minor, actually why is there even an article about this, unless it was written as a classic example of the over eagerness of the yanks to portray themselves as puritanical hypocrites!

Pirated Simpsons movie traced to phone

Shaun Vizer

Cinema's are antiquated

I personally would agree with the raft of bad experiences with respect to going to the cinema's these days. the kids having a laugh in the seats behind, the shocking uncomfortable ness of the seats (especially with said kid kicking your seat!) and the general overpriced nature of the whole experience.

I am not condoning pirating of movies far from it in fact but I would much prefer, and I believe others would also be very eager also, to see on-demand streaming of movies to be ramped up and for releases of on-demand to be the same day as cinema releases.

I can appreciate that this would have a large impact on the movie industry as a whole but honestly if they are serious about the fact pirating loses x£millions(billions) each year than they should move forward as opposed to sitting on their laurels and keeping to the past.

Have a look at iTunes and legal song downloads these initiatives have, if I am not mistaken, taken a good chunk away from music pirates.

Cuban ban

I find it laughable that the USA still enforces their ban of anything Cuban; the political grudge and the whole Cuban Missile Crisis is long over, strange the holding on to something that whilst historic and am sure at the time was quite frightening is now very much old hat.

MS Exchange Connectivity

I believe that elReg are correct in the quote around MS Exchange connectivity, this from Apples site:

"What email systems does iPhone support?

iPhone supports the most popular email standards — IMAP and POP3. Check with your email provider to make sure the provider uses these standards. iPhone works with most popular email services, including Yahoo! Mail, Google Gmail, AOL, and .Mac Mail. Yahoo! Mail supports “push” email and can automatically deliver new email messages to your iPhone."

Doesn't sound like MS Exchange support is there by default.
