Google TUGS Nexus 7-INCHER from its online store

Factory Reset

My 2012 Nexus 7 was unusable when I updated to android lollipop 5.0 back in December. I did a factory reset and it was fixed, back to Android 4.4 speeds. After a few days of running, however, the memory leaked popped up and it needed a soft reset to get it running smoothly again. It is now running Android 5.02 and I <think> that the memory leak is fixed, as I now very rarely need to soft reset my device.

I was close to chucking the thing in the bin back in December when Android 5.0 came out. So a word a of advice; just factory reset it, and it will work ok.

Oz High Court says streaming music is not a 'broadcast'

So Australia is following it's colonial mother in screwing over it's listeners. Why do they need this law anyway? Copyright exists to punish people publishing things without permission? They could just offer a contract to say I won't prosecute you for playing records if you pay me x amount? STUPID laws.

Philips' smart lights left in the dark by dumb security

Paul B

I don't think lightbulb security is really an issue. Who is going to use these? People who go on holiday or are otherwise out and about is about the only really useful use case, and who will give a shit if their lights go on and off randomly when they are not in?

Still mildly interesting to see how it works though, but I think MAC address as a use of security is fine. I don't think these will be used in public places. If these lights go on and off randomly (if I had the money to waste on them) I'd throw them in the bin, and think no more of it.

Three's UK mobile network goes down on unlucky northerners

Same old three

Nothing new there then, I left three two years ago, because I could very rarely make a phone cut without being cut off. Data was fine however, I THINK they prioritized data too much, so I gave them the heave ho.

Netflix dares UK freetards: Watch new Breaking Bad NOW or torrent it?

Paul B

I've only just watched the first series via lovefilm. I have them all queued up, but I'm in no rush as there is dearth of good TV to watch. I have a couple of games still, on rent form them, as they have just cancelled future game rentals, so I'm holding onto them for another month.

I am tempted to cancel my lovefilm now though and go with netflix now though since they cancelled the games subscription.

Re: Amazon == stone-age technology

That is pretty odd, my Kobo touch follows hyperlinks fine, sideloaded ones anyway. Have you updated your firmware to version 2.x?

Samsung adds iPhone 5 to patent battle v Apple

Paul B

I am not much of fan of Apple or Samsung, I own products of both companies, it appears to me that Samsung are just getting in a bit of retaliation. Have you looked at the links posted in the article? Patents for using styli with a touch screen, and volume controls on a media device, how do these patents get awarded? Are the patent clerks monkeys? Do they actually read these patents? Or are they are all approved by a computer?

No worse than any of apples patents, just saying that the patents system in the USA is broken, and is not fit for purpose. It is a joke.
