POETS Day

In my younger days code written for the team had in 1 in 10 chance when run on Friday of throwing up a large text-banner reporting it was poets day, with the expansion of the acronym following. Years after I left it was still surprising some new team members. A gift that keeps giving.

Of course POET Day == Piss Off Early Tomorrow's Saturday - and as I post this, it is so.

Special characters

To me calling someone 'special' has negative connotations. As in "I guess the entire thing was dreamt up by some 'special characters' "

oooo, we know your bitcoid address, scary...

Like they know enough to create and operate a working ransomware scam, but would not know about smartmix.io and their friends to anonymise their coin and cash out as needed.

> Did they try to swallow a standard, four-nodule brick? Did they f*%k

I suspect you are thinking of the standard four by two, thus eight nodule brick. The four nodule brick is two by two nodules, and given it height to width ratio, a reasonably comfortable object to pass. The four by eight is an altogether less gut friendly proposition...

Re: So still 20 years in the future...?

I'm pretty sure it was always 30 years in the future 20 years ago. It looks like we may be asymptotically approaching 0 years ...

What is ~20 parsecs away and hotter? Could Han Solo get there in 12?

Re: Sealand?

My first thought was Rockall, but as it has been kept a part of the UK I fear it would not help much.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Island_of_Rockall_Act_1972

The lack of a decent boozer may also work against it.

Robin 3

You need to move offshore. Perhaps you can publish from Sealand :)

The whole thing stinks. It has the feel of Malaysia and the 1mdb scandal, where the news source to break the story, and the only one able to cover it safely is based in the UK ( http://www.sarawakreport.org/ ). But then I guess Razak has his lawyers lined up now to blow them out the water too.

One change - no more minimum wage

With UBI people no longer 'need' to work to live, so scrap minimum wage. This lowers the cost of starting up new and interesting businesses. Who knows what would happen. But to say UBI would not change things much is blatantly wrong.
