Neo-International Waters

Heavy download links embedded in mobile articles

Like it's cool that you're linking to the download, but from a mobe it's not visible as the download link it is, and if I hadn't quickly found out how to abort a download, I would've just fine through my entire data limit...

IPv6 growth is slowing and no one knows why. Let's see if El Reg can address what's going on

As a consumer with IPv6...

I regularly notice that websites like YouTube are much slower than when using IPv4.

I'm not sure if that's a regional thing, but it's pretty annoying.

Re: Pass the salt...

Hello JV.

SHA-1 is for all intents and purposes a broken algorithm and should be phased out of use. It's better to use password stretching algorithms like bcrypt with appropriate settings for user authentication instead.

Not really, if you're using the proprietary drivers.

Re: Apple fix it or people will move

@NogginTheNog you'd think that, but when I dual boot into Windows 8.1 Pro with my i7-8700k I get the message that my CPU is too new for my Windows version and that I either need to use an older CPU or buy Windows 10.

An error message that minimises all other windows btw., on an OS that I only installed because I wanted to play games that don't yet work in wine.

Re: Can't we finally admit...

There's certainly more that can be done in educating users, but technical security and security training of users are separate issues, at least to me...

Re: Can't we finally admit...

Doesn't that actually mean that security works great? If the only attack vector is user error, things are good!

Elon Musk reveals Mars colony rocket capable of bringing pizza joints to the red planet

Re: What about Oxygen?

All of those are good replies... I was just a bit concerned, because rockets do use a ridiculous amount of fuel... I kinda remembered, that the Falcon 9 FT first stage has a LOX capacity of 287400kg.... But then again, the first stage has to punch through a whole lot more atmosphere than the actual lander thingy, so the number I had in my head was just way too large.

What about Oxygen?

Methane as fuel is all well and good, but without oxidizer it doesn't get you very far... How abundant and available is oxygen on Mars?

Re: Be Wary

Do you know the Underhanded C contest?

You don't have to write a malicous app to be obviously malicious. You can just disguise an attack vector as a bug and if discovered: "Ooops!! Who could've known this would lead to remote code execution! Totally fixed" And then introduce a similar vector a few patches later.
