New Amiga to go on sale in late 2017

psychonaut

Re: Just remember...

oh my god. are we going to necropost about ST vs Amiga?? just for you kids...the whole fanboi thing is not new. Amiga vs ST arguments were loud and abusive all over the playground in 1985 onwards i think. the ST had better sound. but the Amiga was the better machine.

obviously i had an Amiga. if you had an ST, you were a slag. c'mon, i'll start it ...oi you, over here! come ON!! sllaaaaagggg with your ST...oooh, it does midi....NO ONE CARES! i want to be able to play stunt car racer networked (with a null modem cable i'll have you know)...CMON!!!

Re: messing with meshes

repeaters are shit. agree.

i have started using and installing ubiquiti long range dual band with ethernet backbone, or in extreme cases, home plug backbone, just run the cable up the outside of the house if neccesary (mine go through my office ceiling but im not picky about looks )to the loft through the soffits. sit the ap's in the loft attached to the rafters. you dont even need to drill through the ceiling. i have a large sprawling house and i only need 2. i use an ethernet backbone and get 230mb/s (which is what i get at the router) pretty much everywhere. the AP's talk to each other and can steer your device to the correct AP - no more of this hanging on to a really out of range AP nonsense, or different network SSID's for different rooms. just one proper continuous network everywhere. it is amazing, and there is no substitute (for £cheap it costs. ap's are about £120 each. no doubt you can do better with £k's worth of kit, but for the price they are fab)

Re: meh

yup, still got my note 4. theres nothing else that ticks the boxes for me. will need something to replace it with at some stage soon, mine is getting a bit knackered now. but the only option at the moment is another note 4

psychonaut

Re: meh

by the way tiggity, which phone do you have?

psychonaut

Re: meh

get the cos physics argument, agreed, but the note 4 camera is fine for everything for me apart from night shots where it is abysmal. it takes ages to focus. i am not a photographer obviously, and i dont own a camera. and dont particulalry want to own one, i just use he note for taking about a million pictures of my kids, which i very rarely look at. but have to back up.

psychonaut

"Which phone still has them though?"

my note 4. i cant find anything to replace it with. so i guess thats a good thing for my wallet.

i just dont get why the below are so hard to find / difficult to do.

want:

1)waterproof

2) big removable (or at least easily replaceable) battery and no i dont want to have to lug a power pack - my note is on its 3rd battery - still lasts all day from a single charge with everything on and constant phone calls

3) fast charge

4) decent camera with decent night shooting (which is where the note 4 falls down)

5) headphone socket

6) big screen

7) sd slot (my music collection is large).

open to suggestions if anyone has an opinion

psychonaut

no removable battery, no sd slot. next!

Re: Did we mention...

yup. its killing the machine before it even finishes downloading it. win 10 upgrade assistant and windows update consuming entire machines resources on several i have here in the lab. crazy shit man....

psychonaut

Re: Acme of Perfection

"Right this minute the Update system is hung trying to download a "Feature update to Windows 10, version 1703","

yup, im seeing this on many customer machines...(the ones who didnt listen to me about staying on 7 and dont go anywhere near win 10 or new customers who have win 10) you are not alone. got 2 here right now.

had to rebuild one of them as it completely fucks the machine when it is just tryiong to download it. 100% disk usage, 100% cpu usage..cant do anything on the machine unless you want to wait for 20 minutes while it thinks about it. this isnt even installing it, its just trying to assess the machine to download it.

crazy shit man...

Re: @vetia This is a bad thing

if you are worried about your kids, make sure that you, not the TV , are their main source of information regarding what they can do with their life. make sure you tell them every day if necessary, that they can be whatever they want to be. encourage and educate them.

in the meantime, leave the incompetent blundering dads in adverts for fucks sake. theres more important stuff to worry about.

on another note on product names, theres a product called "start ya bastard" in Australia to spray into your air intake when your engine doesn't cooperate....thats the best one i ever found...

Re: This is a bad thing

you make valid points, and society has moved on, which is great.

but do you really think that the examples you raise are anywhere near in severity to what was in the article?

how is it possible to objectively legislate for this? i would say its impossible. all we will end up with is a bunch of nonsense, as per making sure that men arent seen to be useless at household chores in adverts. its a massive waste of time, and, to me , its offensive.....but its ok, i'll get over it ;)

psychonaut

Re: This is a bad thing

"It's not about who is or isn't offended. It's about how much harm is done to society by the reinforcement of negative or unrealistic stereotypes."

so how much harm is done then? do you know anyone who has been directly effected by being shown a negative sterotype?

how can we tell, objectively, what is or is not a stereotype?

how can we legislate as to what constitutes a valid stereotype, and an invalid one?

I've shifted to buy everything off amazon now. The usual suspects and their shit rma terms / handling can get stuffed ( ebuyer for instance). If anything goes wrong with anything from amazon within a year it's a straight refund no questions, no bullshit, just sorted. The only issue is non vat registered sellers. As I'm vat registered I have to check every item I buy before I buy it as some sellers , even though they sell boat loads of things for hundreds of pounds, aren't vat registered, which makes them 20% more expensive for me. I wish amazon would sort that out. By the way has anyone upgraded to amazon business account? If so what happens with rma's and next day prime delivery? Would be interested to hear.

if one of those things goes off, there are going to be a lot more of them flying around shortly after. is it going to model that as well?
