Brussels changes its mind AGAIN on .EU domains: Euro citizens in post-Brexit Britain can keep them after all

"We're fucked, and it will only get worse until we run out of politicians."

FTFY.

Re: Brexit

TBH, I'm fed up to here with the whole palaver.

Just get on with it. If we leave the remainers won't be happy. If we remain, the leavers won't be happy.

Do someting and at least only approximately half the country will be moaning rather than all of it.

Re: Yeah nice...

I was at an event run by Ed Baker about Server 2019 migration earlier this year. The Shift to Azure thing also applies to Server 2008/20008 R2. MS's plan does give you 3 years to work out how to shift legacy systems to newer infrastructure.

So, AFAIAA, the assumption is also partly that you could figure out how to keep it on site.

Professional (paid to do IT) <> Professional (paid to do IT and actually knows WTF they're doing, has standards),

I'm using the latter. I think we're on the same page.

Huw D

Re: You've obviously not seen systems run by professionals then

a) I'm referring to the people running the in-house systems that the poster was commenting on being amateurs "probably better than most in-house systems I have seen, actually, and def. way more secure". However, seeing as you seem to have misinterpreted my comments then

b) Google are merely the hosts, providing the software and infrastructure. There still has to be an administrator, well, administrating. That's the problem not Google.

No, interinoperability means that different OSes can fuck things up the same way for consistency.

Here's a great idea: Why don't we hardcode the same private key into all our smart home hubs?

Huw D

Re: RE: TonyJ

I see your point Mr Monstr, but IoT is not marketed as an aid for people with impairments. IoT is marketed as convenience. I can see IoT being a quick fix for some people, but the people I know with long term disbilities are more likely to use a tried and trusted approach.

If you're going to be permanently in a wheelchair, do you a) pay for the light switches in your house to be moved to a lower level or b) get someone to fit a smart hub and some bulbs? You're more likely to go for option a) because there's going to need to be a metric fuck-tonne of work required for everything else as well.

Huw D

Re: RE: TonyJ

The solutions for people with disabilities/impairments have been there for years and don't require an IoT device.

Huw D

Re: RE: TonyJ

"I understand people liking the keyless entry thing as a convenience"

Every IoT thing under the sun is "a convenience". That's the problem. People would rather be lazy than secure.
