Elderly Bletchley Park volunteer sacked for showing Colossus exhibit to visitors

Malcolm Catling

One of the main reasons I used to go was to see the Colossus and the museum of computing. I am actively dissuading people from going now, just had visitors from USA and directed them elsewhere (Duxford). If a modern gift shop is planned it would be a tragedy, So petty, and sad for the volunteers who made it a great experience.

Alternatively you could...

Personally I bought a small tower chassis for a local SMB, with 4 removable 3Tb drives in an ICY box, 2 * 1Ge Nic card, Loaded Nas4free onto a 2Gb USB stick and booted from that. configured the 4 drives as a ZFS volume and get all the benefits of ZFS, including AFS, CIFS, NFS, iSCSI. £850 including the disks. Web interface for management and great performance. No linux knowledge etc needed for setup either.

Not for everyone as an approach but I slep easie with the ZFS file system protecting the data. Never lost data with ZFS yet.

Why not just buy a fully converged and integrated stack from one Supplier?

Huawei Enteprise systems already offer a fully converged Cloud stack with its IT product range and specifically its fusionCube products.

Servers, Storage, Switches, Racks, UPS, Hypervisor, Cloud Management, Cloud Portal. All integrated and from a single supplier :-)

They can scale to equivalent vBlock and Flexpod configurations, and are carrier class having been implemented in many Asia Telcos..

Huawei offers a full Amazon S3 compliant product Called CloudStor CSE

Huawei have had a product that offers full Amazon S3 cloud object storage. Product name is CloudStor CSE. Combined with their CloudStor CSS product it can scale to 10s of Petabytes.

It is targetted at Telco Carriers who want to offer a public service and large Enterprises that want to deploy an in house private Cloud storage service.
