Cloud

I don't know but for me there is something wrong with the business model of the cloud

the tech is super,

they are all growing at 2digits in the cloud, the Oracle, SAP, Saleforce, Amazone, IBM, Netflix, Microsoft etc etc

but if you look at the NET profit of the cloud part without the gimmicks .. there losing money ...

even company's who are +10 years in the cloud-business-service and are the leader in there service have a NET-Profit which is negative.

Is this a sustainable business model ?

Don't you need to make a real profit and not a cash injection from the stocks on wall street .. ?

May be I'm too stupid or so to understand the dynamic, but for me a business who is 10years old and still is losing net money then there is something wrong with it.

At which point are they big enough to make real money ...

Big as a monopoly like Alphabet search service ?

Re: Tesla a greencar, really ?

You can say that the energy to produce, transport, etc the Diesel is roughly the same as the energy of the different fuels you use to make your steam to move the turbine ... to produce electricity in the power-plant ...

Porco Rosso

Tesla a greencar, really ?

So a diesel engine has en efficiency of 40% , the rest of the energy is transforms to heat

Electric cars :

- first we need to produce the electricity .. actual electrical power plants … efficiency of +/- 40%

- this electricity has to be moved from the power plant to the user … in the transport there is +/- 7% who gets lost so efficiency of 93%

- the electricity has to be transforms from high tension to low tension , 25% gets lost ( efficiency of 75% )

- In a battery you receive +/- 72 % back of the energy you put in it ..

- The electrical motor itself has a better efficiency the a diesel engine but still there is 10% energy who gets lots ( efficiency 90%)

=> 90% of 72% of 93 of 40% = 18%

conclusion an electrical car consumes two times more than a diesel engine .

and we don’t count the energy you need to produce and recycle the batteries...

Strange things that there is a lot of fuzz coming from the EU and European governments to protect the free users against Facebook and/or Alphabet and other reselling user data internet service company's

Why are there so many Windows Server 2003 stragglers?

Porco Rosso

No Windows Small Business Server 2012

but may-be like us .. the cost to go from Windows Small Business Server 2003 premium to server 2012 + full exchange + full sql-server + full sharepoint is a little to expensive for an small company's ... ( 5 to 15 man strong )

and No not every small company want to go to the trap-cloud solution of Microsoft ...

We where lucky to be migrate to smb 2011 but we don't know where to go from there in the future ...

VDI for small company

Hello Trevor,

Is this VDI a good solution for a small company <10 end users ?

Could we just buy a second-hand server to virt. the desktops (all win 7 pro) and let the users login in via remote desktop ? (more and more of my colleagues want a nice looking Imac as their desktop ... )

I see the value in VDI for updating and managing ... but isn't this overkill for us ?

When does it start to make sense from a budget vs management point of view for a small group of users

Also strike against Microsoft

Don't forget that with this move Google has now close ties with Lenovo " number 1 business/windows pc manufacture " .

It's also a gentle strategic move of Google's part to push Lenovo to ship products

witch integrate service of Google (Chrome OS, Android, Google docs, gmail and other services) to it's business customers worldwide and of course Chinese home user.

(Microsoft didn't see this coming. )

reason d'etre ...

Hey Trevor ,

"Better yet, get your product in front of multiple independent types to do comparisons and tell me the results - good and bad - so that I can decide for myself, and do it as quickly and efficiently as possible. "

Isn't that the point of a website like " The register " to act as a neutral technical instructed arbiter/adviser.

and not as a pub-magazine just posting what the marketing department of this big OEM's want the end user to belief ...
