Spartan is IE 11 but without all the legacy rendering support for IE6-10, so it will score the same. However, this probably does mean that future versions of Spartan will score better as it will be easier to integrate support for new standards.
I'm glad they're not using webkit, it's important to maintain a broad range of engines out there, otherwise we could end up in the bad old day's of everything being written around the most common engine, and standards are ignored.
To be fair, the issue is related to TV rights being sold to local broadcasters. Comedy Central UK has paid for the rights to exclusively broadcast Friends in the UK, this is why it's not available on Netflix in the UK. It's a difficult issue to resolve without tearing down the basis of all TV broadcasting rights sales.
All this criticism of the new UI. But what choice does MS have? Touch is the current big advance in UI, can anyone say for certain that in 5 years there won't be more tablet devices than desktops? MS has to do something to counter the rise of the ipad, but no one seems to be presenting a better idea, just criticism of their approach. Yes, merging a desktop OS with a mobile UI might not be the greatest solution, but how else is MS to incorporate touch into it's OS?
