Good news, everyone! Two pints a day keep heart problems at bay

MattLoren

This is correlative not causative.

And all similar studies have been proven to be so too. Sorry to be a party pooper :(

Non-drinkers and Ex-drinkers usually have another reason not to drink - another health condition or lifestyle which isn't compatible with boozing. This group are therefore skewed towards having health issues than any of the other groups; If you're in fine fettle you can be a heavy drinker and you'll be fine, if you're shot and dying of cancer and on a cocktail of sensitive drugs, you're not going to be drinking at all.

Basically a glass of wine a day is fine ..because it doesn't do anything. Drink heavily you're more likely to get some kind of problem. don't drink at all or have given up drink?? There's probably a damn good reason.

Fanbois designing Windows 10 – where's it going to end?

Avoiding people with clipboards is a very basic skill

As a result, only the stupid, unobservant and the very slow are ever in a position to give their opinion to a pollster or fill in a survey. Heck, I'll happily cross the road to avoid someone with a clipboard. What's shocked me is that they don't regularly get everything wrong, given this indisputable observation.

HARD ONES: Three new PC games that are BLOODY DIFFICULT

What, no Eve Online?

Much less forgiving than anything else out there.

Who should play the next Doctor? Nominations needed!

Re: Bertie Carvel

This would be great and would fit the profile nicely. Younger guy, excellent British actor...however he's already appeared in Dr. Who... in "The Lazarus Experiment"

Admittedly he was listed as "Mysterious Man" and we don't in anyway know who he was linked to and he just warns Martha that the doctor is dangerous and to watch out, so that's no showstopper.

He's currently up for a Tony award for his work on the broadway version of Matilda, which is proving massive over there.

Re: Oh boy.

We would be happy to have you in the PC Gamer Magazine Corp; PCG Enterprises.

Come back..you know you want to...beckons whilst backing off into a unclaimed Wormhole (not a euphemism).

This is the widely accepted theory amongst the conspiracy guys, yes.

A simplistic explanation:

For those of you that haven't played the game players fight over bits of space and can create player owned stations. When attacked, they go into a "defensive mode" which renders them immune to attack for a time dependent on the amount of special fuel they have (Strontium in this case).

A rival corporation will come back at the right time with lots of ships (players) and blow the heck out of it, if it hasn't been repaired and put back online really quickly. The new corporation will then claim that space.

There have been incidents where people have had their comms lines cut, servers have been downed etc. to prevent hostile actions, fleets being formed and even to take key players out of battles.

Ten ancestors of the netbook

MattLoren

Had the Atari, the Psion 3, the Libretto and the first EEE PC 701.

This category is completely misunderstood by manufacturers.

I want an ultraportable machine that I can use anywhere, is relatively solidly built (no stupid Ultrabook breakability) and I'll pay a premium to get a proper usable machine. I don't care about resolution (up to a point) and I don't care about the thing looking poncey. Bigger screens? I've got a 40" monitor that I'll plug in to the thing if I want a big screen, this is for working, not watching rubbish or playing games on.

God knows why the PC companies haven't made netbooks with decent specs. Why can't I have 8gb of Ram and a decent chip? I'll pay for it.

The closest I've seen is the HP DM1, which when you put an SSD and 8Gb of Ram in it, is a great little machine.

Netbooks projected to become EXTINCT by 2015

Actually this "Netbook" will run Skyrim and Eve Online happily in decent resolution

Just stick 8gb of fast Ram in there and a decent SSD and it will beat almost any laptop available under £700 quid for an outlay of about £400, as well as being actually portable.

The onboard Nvidia chipset, although not the fastest thing in the world, really beats any of the intel equivalents (or indeed the Ion platform from NVidia) for games.

Samsung slaps swift patch over phone-wiping Galaxy S III vuln

Facepalm

My galaxy just broke

After falling from 2ft up. I had spent the previous two weeks fixing all of the problems Samsung had created with their awful overlay, such as their awful keyboard, terrible animations and godawful software. I can confidently state that Samsung have the worst overlay I've ever used and I actually miss HTC's Sense.

Microsoft unveils fondle-ready keyboards, mice

MattLoren
FAIL

Wot no numeric keypad?

So Microsoft have finally decided that we don't need to input sheets of figures quickly into our computers in roder to do complex calculations (which is after all what computers were invented for).... and more importantly it's going to be really difficult to play Nethack without one.
