Picture 6, the man in the hole.
Going down a hole like that (and *allowing* someone else to do so) : Utter madness.
Do that here and you'd have Health and Safety over you like a swarm of angry hornets.
And rightly so. Very silly.

> Samsung has only just released the Note 2, and the S 3 wasn't that long ago...
Yes, so unless your understanding of English is different to mine, they're not imminent.
> And isn't the next Nexus phone due in a month or two?
It's being talked about (i.e. hyped) very little at this point in comparison, and as far as I can see the new Lumias will be available before it is. My point stands.
Are you sure about that?
They must've had quite a few headaches (and clearly given Sharp a few as well) with that new thinner screen, the biggest benefit of which appears to be, err, thinness.
A plastic case would also save more weight.
I'm not saying weight wasn't an issue, but clearly thinness was a major goal.
Disclaimer up front: Personal stance on the great debate - Apple products: Good; Apple company: Bad; Phone: Blackberry; Next Phone: Probably Android.
Maybe something that doesn't lead to the fanbois crowing too much, but has just about enough to stop the fandroids popping the champagne corks isn't a bad thing - at least for the Reg forums - but also for the general market.
Manufacturer and OS-maker wise, I'd imagine those happiest off all about the underwhelmingness of it must be Nokia/Microsoft.
No major Samsung release imminent, Apple release what's mostly a lick of paint, Microsoft and Nokia still have time to add reactionary tweaks before release: The door for Nokia/WinPhone 8 is surely well and truly back open now.
I hope so, because I want more than two major players.
Why a shortage? Obviously if there's a pig-food shortage, then to save the pigs starving we should be eating them at record-breaking pace.
There should be a glut of bacon, we shouldn't be able to move for bacon.
Your reporters should sit and think a minute before they write - they're obviously rasher than they should be.
It's fabulous. Really, it's a wonderful piece of kit. It picks up everything so quick, recognises each of us in the household individually, has very impressive response to movements.
For playing games in a big room, it's a brilliant bit of tech.
It does have some issues though. If someone's sitting watching, it'll pick them up too. Especially if they scratch their nose or something. People who don't know what it is come into the room and watch, and it picks them up and gets confused. It loses my hand and finds someone elses. If someone walks behind me, it'll see them and assume they are either another player or worse still, that it's me.
This is all manageable playing games at home - close the door, "Oi! Get out! You're messing up my game! ", ignore the phone ringing, etc.
But then I think of it in an office environment. There are people walking around all the time. Standing behind you having discussions, going to the loo, looking at your screen as you're sharing some great piece of coding genius with them, getting coffee, etc etc etc. My phone will ring, I can't ignore it just 'cos answering it will cause an unwelcome hand movement. I might be sitting here for hours coding away (or, erm, typing responses on El Reg). I will need to drink coffee, snack, look in my drawer, pick up a pen, turn and talk, and so many other things that will get picked up and possibly interpreted as a gesture.
If this works in an office, I think it could have a place, but I'd also be amazed. In fact, I'd be astonished if it could be made to be discerning enough and reliable enough to be much more than an extremely frustrating distraction. But then, I was astonished when I first used my kinect. Time will tell.
Maybe it's just a crap example, but from the image on the first page:
Fastest = 50.3 miles, 1h16m.
Economical = 37.7 miles, 0h58m.
Easiest = 52.7 miles, 1h17m.
Erm, that means economical is a whole lot faster than fastest, assuming fastest means shortest time.
So does fastest maybe mean highest speed? Well no, 'cos easiest is a higher average speed than fastest.
Maybe the maps are brilliant, but it looks to me like their maths is crap!
According to my statistics based on gut instinct and a fanciful imagination, at any given moment at least 22.7% of our women are out partying. So while you English, Welsh, and Scottish are perving over naughty pictures and recycling the kleenex, we're out doing the real thing.
Secondly, the reason a lot of our mums aren't online, is 'cos they ask us to set them up but we put them off 'cos we don't want them going on our facebook and seeing what we're up to.
Finally, never (ever) understimate the Norn Iron habit of giving you duff information as a form of "mind your own fekking business"
